Some, and the issue has a solution. My 996 is my daily driver since it doesn't care it it's sitting in traffic with the AC on full blast, or carving corners in the mountains. They are workhorses.

Exactly what I am thinking. Daily driver, It's fun to drive, comfortable, has ice cold A/C and seat heaters...I can beat the piss out of it and who cares? Its the 911 no one wants...1st generation water pumper. The fact that there is nothing special about it is what makes it so special. :D No heartache in piling on the miles, driving in bad weather, or getting door dings on it.

Great looking car, sounds like a keeper. Ignore those who degrade the 996, most have never even driven one. I would be very interested in your comparison to the Lotus, I suspect it is pretty night and day different.

Um..yeah....LOL....it's nothing like the Lotus. The modern 911 is a street car you can occasionally take to the track. The Elise is a track car you can occasionally drive on the street...if you dare.

So now that you've driven both...
If you didn't own either and were cross shopping between a Lotus and a 996 which one would you choose?

Two totally different cars for totally different purposes IMO. So it's tough to compare. I would never daily drive my Lotus, a Little Tykes Cozy Coupe is more comfortable. This 911 though, it's like driving a pillow by comparison.

Let it go unless you were already in the market for this car to begin with.
Sentimentality is anathema to sound decision making.

Ya know...after driving it all weekend I am thinking you are 100% right.
