There is a lady with Downs that is clears the tables and cleans the tables at a Arby's over close to where I used to live. I bet she has been there 25 years or more. She is very friendly and seems to love her job. I know the owner of the place as just an acquaintance and the owner said she is his best employee. She always shows up on time with a smile on her face and no one could do a better job at what she does. He said she is works long hours because she loves to work there. He pays her more than most of his employees except the manager because she is always happy and working and never complains.

Not to steal the thunder of the lovely lady in the OP, but my tiny hometown of 1800 people had a similar person (he died several years back). Johnny Krieger was our town's most famous resident! They didn't show him in his real police uniform in this video, but nice nonetheless. Funny thing is...I know every single person in this video.
CNN did a feature on him some years back... https://youtu.be/raE6SHnX7Bk (The girl at 4:35ish was my first girlfriend, haha)

Back in 2004 when I had just paid off my TDI,I got the common check engine light and took my car to my trusted mechanic that employed a mentally challenged gentleman. This gentleman moved the cars from the upper parking lot into the repair bays. He was taking my car from the upper lot down a ramp when he hit the accelerator instead of the brakes. Across the street jumping the curb straight into a house went my car. Totaled. This created a series of events that impacted this poor guy in a bad way. I felt worse for him then I did for my car.

Our local supermarket (Vons) employees such a gentleman to collect the shopping carts and other light duty around the market.
Kinda makes you wonder about those guys on the freeway ramp with a cardboard sign.

slightly off topic, but hey we are in off topic
One thing that always gives me joy is when you see somebody at walmart, or mcdonalds or any other "undesirable" place take a great deal of pride and care in their work. It seems like these places usually have a bunch or young kids and slackers. However, every once in a while you catch some body who is super polite, or doing something to help that they don't necessarily have to, or just doing a great job in general. It puts some of the *****ing from colleagues in white collar jobs in perspective.

In Ohio, at least Summit county, they have to wear their panhandler permit from a lanyard around their neck. For some reason it discounts the "I am really sucking wind" mental picture.
Often thought about the science of panhandling. It does not look that easy. +1 on the gal from McD's. Cool

Had lunch today in a booth at a local restaurant. I noticed a small plaque denoting the booth in honor of a 30-year employee.
Cool. |

That's a really great story, I love hearing how people are able to overcome their disabilities to be successful members of society.
