I guess being elderly is better than the alternative. I feel elderly already, but when I see old guys with dragon ass jeans I know suddenly that it can get worse, much worse.

"Old and In the Way, That's what I heard them say,
They used to heed the words he said, but that was yesterday, Gold will turn to gray and youth will fade away, They'll never care about you, call you Old and In the Way." I'll be 67 in a couple months and have been very "young" and healthy all my life up until about 4 months ago. Routine check-up and blood test showed my platelets were extremely low. Dangerously low white blood cells with very high red cells. A bone marrow biopsy showed that I am producing white cells but are being "attacked" by the red cells. The reason was determined to be early Leukemia. Doc can't say at this point whether it is a fast or slow form. Phlebotomy every two weeks and will check marrow again to see. So in a matter of a few weeks elderly-ness reality hit home with zero warning. Just trust in Doctors and positive attitude will be a daily routine. Things can change really fast. Things that seemed important 4 months ago are not important today! |
I'm 70. Still have a young-sounding voice, most of my hair, a sense of silly humor, and I look 50, at least many have said - my mom's genes.
But I'm slowing way down...my 'to do" list around my property is massive and I get to it when I feel energetic, which is not often. . Who was it, a friend of Plato or Socrates?... who said about sex (paraphrasing), "It's liberating to no longer be under the influence of that slave driver." |

I got a phone call last night from a doctor I don't know. He sayz: "go get these pills NOW. Take 2 tonight & 2 more first thing tomorrow morning. The results of your blood test were BAD." Potassium readings where getting to drop dead levels. |
It's worse when the Dr's office calls and says "get to Emergency now, Don't drive!" (Actually happened).
I don't feel old but every once in awhile there will be some old guy in the mirror blocking my view when I'm trying to shave. |
I'm too old for my age really. I eat well but exercise has really tapered off. Need to fix that. Far too much stress in my life right now that I don't see going away anytime soon. I missed the good genes line before arriving here, a stranger guessed my age to be 60. I was 51 at the time. I don't have much to complain about in the big picture but sadly I look and feel pretty damn old.

I feel pretty good at 53, but I admit it bothers me having people call me sir. Must be the grey hair.

RKT, what about bone marrow transplant?

I'm going on 75 and starting to feel old age creeping up on me. At my last checkup, my doctor questioned my whiskey consumption. I told him it had to be good for me because there are a lot more old drunks than old doctors.

My new boss's boss introduced a beautiful young woman to me yesterday who works a couple floors above where I do. I had just walked into a break area and after the intro, the boss started querying me on a work matter that she seemed to disagree with my (and our organization's approach). I was dressed nicely in a suit as I was on my way to an important meeting...and of course, I gave my best impassioned, but reasoned sales pitch and then wandered off to another appointment. When I returned, my boss (her subordinate) flattered me by telling me that the young lady was quite impressed by me...and had told my boss's boss who had introduced us (her mother).
Now I feel elderly. |
