Bought Some New Hearing Protection....Wow

My amplified ear muffs are getting pretty old and they cause my ears and surrounding area to ache after about an hour. If I have range safety officer duty for 6 hours or so it unbearable. So I looked at getting molded amp'd models but at our last gun show the guy that does the cast and sells them ($800) was not there so more looking. I finally settled on a set of 3M Peltor TEP-100 Tactical jobs and they are rechargeable in the case with 3 AA batteries acting as the charge unit. Got them last Wednesday and tried them today with Big Ollie at the range and they amplify really great. I can hear the whole range which is nice. I was curious as to the noise cut off and when I shot the 90 grains of FFG the first time so much sound was cut I thought the gun miss-fired! Several more shots showed the same effect and NO discomfort at all after several hours.

I bought them from Magnum Electronics in Dover Delaware and they were great, great price too.

Interesting.

I wear ear plugs and ear muffs over the top. I haven't got much hearing left to lose so I'm always interested in hearing protection.

I do a it of RO as well so I know what you mean

Whatever hearing you do have left, those 901's will see to it that you'll have none.

.
BTW, my hearing is also quite diminished...firearms, jet engines, and loud home music systems.

I really should wear protectioon more often. When I thgink about it, I wear while mowing (72" diesel makes alot of noise), but always have some headphones on the gun range. I keep packets of ear plugs in my ammo box as well for the unsuspecting /unprepared people.

Never could stand using muffs. Interfere with stock, hot, uncomfortable.

I do use the soft foam plugs... and even with 308 and bigger going off around me, they work and work well.

my muffs always lift on the stock side too so I wear soft underneath.

Amazon has these for $65. That seems very inexpensive for good quality active muffs. Which model are you using?

Peltor is really good! In Scandinavia professional machine operators use Peltor.

The ones I bought were the 3M-TEP-100 models mentioned above. They come with several sets of various sized adapters that go in the ear and one named the "screw in" which works the best for attenuation. You have to wet them well so they will slide in all the way or you get a squealing feedback noise.
