RIP Tony Adamowicz
Tony passed yesterday after quite a lengthy battle with brain cancer.
Such a warm and wonderful man. You'd be hard pressed to find a more genuine person to chat to. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tony_Adamowicz |
My friend lent Tony his 69 911 back in 2013 when he was the guest driver for our vintage race in Spokane.
This was Tony's message on Bill's FB page. Just thought I would give photo credit to my good friend Bob Pengraph, who took this pic at Spokane Festival of Speed in Spokane , Wash. Met a lot of great new friends there in God's Country of the North West. The racing was great, experienced a lot of seat time in the 1968 Porsche 2 liter including some rain racing. My sincere Thank You to Bill for allowing me to race his beautifully prepared 69 Porsche 911 2 liter. It performed flawlessly, and not a dent was made during my driving and racing this machine. My Thanks to my friend Klaus and the Spokane Festival of Speed, as well as the sanctioning body Sovren for making it all happen. Anyone who has not been to the North West, Spokane , Wash. is missing out on beautiful country and people here. cheers tony a2z racer It was a privilege to meet Tony that weekend and have him speak at our event. Difficult way to go. Godspeed ~
An interesting story of Tony's life around JFK. Tony Adamowicz (Lastly, by chance does anyone know if he had a brother who worked for Porsche? If so, PM please.) |
He was a true gentleman racer. Trans Am champion in a Porsche that was built up from a stripped 912 and a factory racer that was totaled at Daytona.
Marc Zurlinden built a really exact tribute to that car, the Jonathan Sieger owns today http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1476229242.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1476229268.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1476229292.jpg |
Many remember that Gurney and Yates won the first Cannonball in '71 in the blue Daytona coupe.
Sometimes its forgotten that Tony, Oscar Kovaleski and Brad Niemcek finished second, a mere 20 minutes behind the Ferrari in a Chevy van. Loaded with fuel drums. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1476242169.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1476242185.jpg Godspeed, Tony. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1476242228.jpg |
if I recall, I understand they had 5- 50 gallon drums of fuel in the van. really cool stuff. great story. tony was a nart racer and was in the game during the glory days.
he raced the 312p, 512s and m as well as the 365 gtb/4 for Ferrari and luigi chinetti. in his later years, he race vintage race cars. it was always great to see and talk to him at the track. a neat man and racer. he will be missed:( |
