Any Corvette guys here?

Hi guys,

I am currently Porscheless. Looking for something cheaper. Any opinions on the C3? Know that it is not very powerfull but I like the looks.

Going to check this out next week. It has all paperwork since new.

Thanks,

Christian

Have you driven one before?

christiandk 10-22-2016 04:01 AM

No, but I guess it is relaxing in city traffic. Auto and all.

fastfredracing 10-22-2016 04:59 AM

not a very good driving car.

Mullet? Sideburns? Leisure Suit? It might be for you!

Lots of rattles on the older ones, not much power, and that timeless 90s "wedge" look........yuck.

he must be talking about the C4. C3 isn't wedgie shaped.

I like Corvettes but I'm not a Corvette owner. There is enough data on the net but anything after 1972 is garbage. The emission laws of the 70's detuned the performance of the car, The car had to meet the 5 mph laws so the chrome bumpers front and rear disappeared. A true dual exhaust system was replaced with a single exhaust system.

Thee 1969 vette is probably the best of the C3 series because they got all the bugs out of the 1968 model (first year)

It is probably a good entry level car to buy if you want Vette. If it was me, I would look at a C5 or C6.

good luck.

The car in the link isn't a Stingray. Last Stingray was '76 IIRC.

I love the look of the C3, but as others have stated, they are not very good cars.

I was a bit shocked at the price. $26k USD!

It it important to inspect the car closely for corrosion, especially in the 'bird cage' portion of the body work.

I LOVE Corvettes, had a few books on them... then I caught the Porsche bug.

Jim pretty much nailed it, pre 1972 is the way to go but those are falling into the "classic car" trap and now bringing $$.

Much better deals on C5 or C6 and I presume much better drivers (that is what I would get if I was in the market).

All IMHO

That Mustang is nice - åBut I am crazy about the C3 look. Very sexy!

masraum 10-22-2016 11:51 AM

That car is an '81 which is one of the lowest powered models ever, but based on the webpage, I think the engine may have been rebuilt or changed. If that's the case, it may not be too bad. That also looks pretty expensive, but it is overseas, right, so price is probably not the same as it would be in the states.

Just get it thoroughly checked out.

aigel 10-22-2016 12:27 PM

Get something 72 or older. A lot more classy looking. Much more common with a stick and those actually made power.

I think the OP is in Denmark or something like that in Europe. (the car seems to be on a Danish website). Finding other years and options of Corvette is probably not as easy as if you were in the US. Finding a good <72 over there probably ramps the price up quite a bit, and I would guess that they are much more rare.

just because,,,the new Corvettes are Stingrays again.
Those cars weren't my favorites, I would rather have had something 72 or older, and did, had a beautiful 64.
But anyway, as for power and handling, if you have the money you can have both. Those are looking better with age.
