After 15 years I lost mine on family vacation this summer. I never take it off and it was scuffed up from car working and various other activities. I have big knuckles so it's never slipped either.
I had photos of my in the afternoon and when I went to dinner it was gone. I think it slipped off in the hotel pool. But, I had them pull the sink trap to check. Checked all around the property to no avail. They were going to check the pool drain when they drained it for the season. I called and have not heard back. I contacted the jeweler that made it. They made me a new one (slight discount) but it's 3x the cost now as they metals (gold and plat) have gone up. The new one is a 10...I'm not sure what the prior was, I was a little heavier in 2001. I felt really weird without it. |
On reflection once I got over the jolt of losing it, I realized that its somewhere on the property, and yes I will look into a metal detector. I talked to the jeweler who made it and yes he can cast me a new one, BUT if I find the original, I don't need two identical rings. I found a sort of nice silver and gold ring I bought 40 years ago that still fits, I'll wear that in the interim. The trophy bride is interested in buying me a new one. We'll see. Thanks everyone for your support, you made me feel not so stupid about losing it.
Happy Turkey Day! |

15 years later, but you still had the car, and put the cover nut right back where it started out.
You should go somewhere together to get one Where does she want to go? Bora Bora, or wherever Angela went with Steve, that looked pretty nice, tropical island in the Winter is a good call, even if you already live where people go to escape the cold and ride the Matterhorn bobsled. Probably not a good choice for jewelry shopping though, maybe Cayman. Have you ever seen a stingray acting like a swimming housecat, eating out of your hand? |

I got the Metal Detector Tuesday and was out yesterday Within in a minute it located something but it was not the ring... We should keep hoping. False Alarm http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1480001439.jpg |
Those rings will have yet another cool story once they do turn up.
Hugh, you might want to hang onto those containers with the leaves in them till the detector shows up. I did go snorkeling looking for my ring I lost surfing. It's fun/ interesting swimming around just inside of the impact zone . Tight mask strap.and gloves to be able hold on and not get dragged inside. No sight of it, way too many holes in the coral. You guys have a chance, good luck. HAPPY THANKS GIVING DAY ! Richard |
A trick I heard of for finding lost things is to think of it just before you fall asleep at night. Your mind quietly works through your memory and in the morning you wake up and think "Ah, it's in the garage next to the lawn mower."
I (when I'm awake) slowly work my way through what I have done over the previous day. Hopefully I remember something out of the ordinary where I may have lost the item. |
Great excuse to get a metal detector. I have a Garrett ace 250 I wouldnt recommend anything less. If you decide to sell it Garretts hold their value very well. If you dont want to bother with that look on craigslist for someone wanting to detect properties. Maybe put a lost and found ad on there aswell incase someone found it. Iv found a few valuable rings and keep an eye on there but dont post found ads. Thats just asking for trouble.

Well that's good news on one front.

Today with the snow all gone and the sun out, I decided to go over the grass where I walked on when I did the maintenance on the generator. Less than 10' from the driveway, I got a big beep from the detector, bend down and there it was :) Hugh, If you did not got a detector yet, do get one. Good luck. My first job in high school was as a janitor at a church and we would work the wedding receptions on the weekends too. A lady takes her rings off and sets them in her lap to put lotion on her hands- forgets and steps out of the car into the fresh snowfall. We get a bunch of large trash cans and shovel up all the snow in the area where she got out.
While the reception was going on we started melting the snow with water and found one. They came back the next day and found the other! Crazy lucky. Good luck Hugh. |

My present technique when I loose something when working on cars/house, is to patiently ask the leprechauns who stole it to give it back . This doesnt work all the time! I think your trick is better. |
Well, it happened to me this weekend. I lost some weight and now have skinny fingers so I go and try to get some dust off my hand by clapping with kinda brushing motion. The damn thing fell off and bounced once on my deck and fell through the 1/4" gap between the deck boards. I crawl under there and its full with leaves and crap. What a mess. My wife was right there and laughing her ass off. so she said " go make a couple more".

I keep my wedding ring on my key chain.
Its a size 14 and too tight, I can't have it stretched anymore and never got around to have it cut and spliced. But unless i loose my keys, which I never have, it's safe. |
