I don't like half the folks I love.
Having said that, our family had a fantastic day.
When sharing what we were giving thanks for I silently said PPOT. You guys help keep me sane.

For the first time in a long long time it was just us 4. It was nice.

StoMo...you should have made an excuse to come over and check out my Mac!

Bring it by over the weekend.

S**t got out of hand around here this week.

The difference between in-laws and outlaws... outlaws are wanted. I hope you had a great Thanksgiving otherwise.

Had a place hire a bar tender that must be the clone of your MIL.

I just started finding out when she was working, and would arrange my schedule to not be there. A little frustrating.

I just can not understand how some people feel the need to force objects down, they'll get there gradually, and a lot quieter if you apply a slowing force towards the end.

Bartender broke the bottom out of the freakin' sink one time!

I probably do have some hearing issues from working in a machine shop, sudden noises are a lot sharper/startling to me than when I was younger.

At least its not their voice. About as bad as slamming utensils and pans is a female that breaks out in excited exclamations that end up sounding like the demented screeching of a banshee.(Over things like how cute their new selfie turned out, etc.)

That's profound Patrick....but I bet the percentage increases substantially if you turn it around :)

LOL! I feel your pain. Great that you can maintain a sense of humor.
This year was wonderful for us. Grandsons are old enough to be fun, I had a fun conversation with brothers and sisters. Our goofy neighbor brought her dog over for us to dog sit while she was with her family and the dog is a joy. But the neighbor acts like your MIL. She just can't seem to do anything right. In all, it was a great day!

Thanksgiving, obviously.

In laws are in town.

I like them but they are loud. Both of them have hearing loss so everything is yelling.

MIL does everything "aggressively". Slams cabinet doors, apparently does not believe in gravity as everything she puts down she slams onto the counter or table as if she didn't it would float off into space.

My FIL eats like a barn animal. One of my biggest peeves, chew with your mouth closed and I don't want to hear it either. And don't fart at the dinner table, that's just not cool. Somehow he always ends up sitting next to me.

The mess is the worst.

I'm inherently lazy AF and don't like to clean so I put effort into not making a mess to begin with.

I find it's less work to not be sloppy than it is to clean afterwards.

MIL is in the kitchen helping my wife prep for the days festivities.

Had to leave as she is destroying my kitchen.

She does that thing where she takes a knife she just used to spread mayo and instead of putting it on the plate or in the sink she just puts it on the counter next to the plate or sink. Now the counter needs to be cleaned. Why?????

She just went to get water from the fridge to take her vitamins. She intentionally started and stopped the water dispenser several times to fill the cup to the brim then promptly spilled water all over the front of the fridge and floor only to walk to the sink muttering something about too much water and pouring half out.

Now they are cutting the Challah bread and my counters look like she ran the loaf through a wood chipper.

I have much to be thankful for and I am and I truly do like them and enjoy their company for the most part but I think it's time to start drinking.

Rant over. I feel better.

Happy Turkey Day all.

Strange! Do we have the same FIL and MIL? :D

It's not an original thought. This Paul Thorn song should be the Thanksgiving anthem.

"God knows they're all dear to me
But if the truth be told,
I like it when they come,
But I love it when they go.
I'm sure they've got good qualities
But the bad ones cover them up.
I don't like half the folks I love."

Cool song....wasn't familiar with him....
Bet he's listened to, and been influenced by JJ (RIP) just a bit too :)

My Mom passed away 6 years ago. Now at age 96, still sharp as a tack mentally but going through congestive heart failure, my Dad was recently "placed" in hospice by two of my out of town siblings that didn't tell him before they signed him up. I've spent my entire life of 53 years very close to my Dad. I consider him my best friend. The siblings aren't worth shooting. So I get the call yesterday from my brother that Dad requested we all be together at his home (without him of course) for Thanksgiving dinner. I told my brother I could care less about having lunch with the siblings. Fired up the 911SC and took an hour and a half drive up the Natchez Trace and then sat at a roadside nature area listening to nature for a few minutes before returning home. Dad calls me at 10 last night before getting his "pain pill" to go to sleep and says he is an emotional wreck that had a bad day. I told him yeah, those people will do that to you and that's why I did my own Thanksgiving.

onewhippedpuppy 11-25-2016 07:03 AM

I often tell my wife that one of these days we will stay home for Thanksgiving. Drove two hours to my in-laws' and stayed for two days, driving two hours home today, then driving two hours tomorrow to spend Saturday/Sunday at my parents' house. Ugh. I wish I lived further away.....

Nice quiet Thanksgiving. I always do the turkey so I'm in the kitchen early, then get my ass out so the sides can be made. The bird came out exceptional if I do say so myself...http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1480086858.jpg

We had a simple & enjoyable holiday - just the two of us. Went out to a quality restaurant for dinner and to a Cirque de Soliel show. Today I'll look around for a turkey to cook so I'll have left over turkey.

scottmandue 11-25-2016 11:12 AM

Just the wife, the cats, and I for turkey day... my brother lives a few miles away and loves to cook so we usually do it at his house but my wife said "I can't stand all the noise and chaos" (I think she may have a touch of the holiday blues).
That and I'm on the low carb diet and needless to say the traditional thanksgiving feast is not very low carb.

Airport run in 10 minutes then peace and quiet returns.
