grief/remorse re: dead celebrities of 2016

it's all over the tube. heart-jerker music, pics of the chosen few.
spare me. i didn't actually know any of them.
i save my remorse for friends/family.
most of these folks wouldn't even give you the time of day, so to speak. there may be exceptions. i doubt it.
there. i feel better already.

You know the voice of Alf died yesterday. So did the guy who invented Solo Cups.

That's pretty sour.

Remember that you also have a bubble.

creaturecat-I feel the same way. I just don't get total strangers being overcome with grief over someone that they most likely didn't know.

I saw folks on their knees crying at George Michael's home on news reports. I get it, he was a star and had a huge career but still...

Ditto...never understood celebrity worship. In many cases, they lived charmed lives by being at the right place at the right time, or born into the right family. I'll weep for the loss of those I love. And none happen to be celebs.

Celebrities are people too that have families as well, plus a lot of them have lived under a microscope for a long time, which I cannot imagine is very enjoyable.

I'm not saying I feel sorry for them, but I also understand some of the people that are sad. I can still remember exactly where I was when I heard about Jerry Garcia passing. Some of these celebrities could be "their" Jerry Garcia.

They aren't strangers, they shared their art with us. Quite intimate if only one way. It's a bummer, I feel bad for the fans that cared and we really did loose some great folks. Telling folks you just don't care because you didn't know them personally? Well, you sound like a class act and wonderful human.

Empathy, it's a thing.

Artists touch people with what they do, some more than others. if you don't get it then I don't know how you pump blood through that heart of #!?$ing stone.

Not so sure he played it with finesse, but I understand where creaturecat is coming from. The whole collective "oh woe is me 2016" thing is a farce.

I'm insulted by your lack of humanity. If you're insulted by me calling you out on it then I suppose that's one for one and that you have thin skin.

It's kind of weird hearing how this was such a bad year for losing people. The only one I knew was my father, but he's not on any lists.

We're supposed to feel bad about people we never met and I do feel bad, a little, about Carrie Fisher and Gene Wilder, since I cared about the characters they played. (A favorite movie that my father and I used to watch together was 'The Producers' with Gene Wilder.) But they don't compare to the people who are on top of our own personal list.

I have a hard time "feeling" anything for celebrities who died recently. I understand that the characters they played pulled at our heartstrings, but personally, they chose that scrutinized lifestyle under a microscope.

I realize that they had family, friends, co-workers that all cared for them, and feel sorrow for thier loss.

Ultimately, their lives were probably alot easier than mine, (and most of yours) because of the mass amounts of money made from their craft, and being able to choose when, and where to work. (imagine not having to drag yourself into an unappreciative job every morning) and deal with co-workers, commutes, or all the other garbage that is associated with living a middle class existance.

Empathy is one thing. Worship is another. People die, that's life. Sure, I hate to hear that any good person passes but it's not the same as losing a loved one. Sorry, but your misplaced self-indignation is childish and unfounded.
