A unique 911. Pics and amateur road test....
911R. Basically a manual transmission GT3RS without the wingage. Some up close pics because you can see macro elsewhere.

The net in general perhaps, but surely not PPOT!

Headers are already rusty like on a ten year old Michigan car?
Huh? I like those anti-scrape attachments tho. Nice idea. Last edited by john70t; 12-14-2016 at 02:58 PM.. |

Some history. The first 911R had something like 210hp and was very light, around 500lbs less than standard 911. By 69 it was making 230hp and it was rumored that further efforts at removing weight had the front wheels lifting off the ground under acceleration going over slight rises. Though peaky it must've made for a barracuda amongst the schools of goldfish on the road back then.
Fast forward 40 years and you've this. 3000lbs and 500hp. No radio or AC. And the gearing seems less autobahn wide ratio and more of a short or close gear feel. I didn't look up the ratios so it could be the light weight. The car feels centered and unlike other high output rear drive cars it really hooks up. Punching it at 4K rpm and it will spin the tires momentarily with traction control tuned off (can't really ever turn it all the way off - you can see the stability control light flashing on the dash). Seems a more direct power transfer vs PDK in GT3. The 4.0 has a deep midrange sound with a wail on top. A mako shark amongst today's tunas. ![]() ![]() ![]()

Generally this is how they look after some run in time. This particular steel turns a shade of brown that holds for a long time. They are double walled and quite large.

Go all the way for cripes sake. Geesh. The very last thing...any focused driver driving a tight corner...needs...is to be suddenly blinded by the dashboard. |

What a gorgeous car. Who's looking at the dash though, when that light is flashing? In my case, it would be the lower console.

I'm attuned to all warning lights as part of my job. It's not that obtrusive, I caught it out of the corner of my eye. Might not even come on at all on a warm day with warm tires. It was around 25F degrees when I romped on it. This car is more about just the spec numbers. Things happen extremely quick in this lightweight.

Why don't you ask our own Jack Olsen how he liked it being one of the first civilians to drive one
