Storm on

Here on the east coast (maritimes) , we are having one mother whoppin' storm. 90km winds, heavy snow, power out, trees down. What did we do to deserve this, I wonder?http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1481902386.jpg

"What did we do to deserve this?"
I think it was that nice old survivor car that your friend was going to hotrod....;)

Angered the gods, you did....

When you guys get weather, you really go all out!
Hope that you stay warm and the power is back on soon.

Not "WAS" going to hotrod

What you did is move WAY WAY up North near the arctic circle. Kinda like asking why Phoenix is 120 in August.

All parts of the different countries have their pluses and minuses. Here it it -23C or -5F but we don't get as much snow as the East Coast.

Yellowperil what is your family geographical history? How many generations of your family have been on the East Coast?

wdfifteen 12-16-2016 07:58 AM

The French Canadians did it.:D

^^ Bawhaha!
We all have the right to whimper a little when the extremes come.

So Y P. What do you and the dockside crew thru the winter?
Build hot rods in heated garages?

How long is the harbor frozen in?

Cheers Richard

Yes on the hotrods, actually we never stop building Hot Rods. But as far as the shipping, if and when we get a business deal, we get icebreakers to open the harbour up. The harbour Pilot will board at an ice free harbour, like Port aux Basques or Sydney or Halifax, then he might go as far as Quebec city to disembark. His pilot boat has to be taken out of the water as soon as ice starts, of course.

Normal freeze up usually early Jan to mid March. This year a bit earlier. We have 3 more ships, at least so I'll post a few pics when the icebreakers come to town. Thanks for asking.

At least back to great, great, grandparents. We've just always been here. Not too good at family history, we're not royalty though. But part of the French connection I guess.

Teuveren sent that weather your way, he just overshot Quebec...

JJ 911SC 12-16-2016 11:30 AM

-26C this morning was pretty brutal. They are calling for snow and freezing rain on Saturday.

Can't wait to fly to Halifax on Sunday as they are calling for a balmy 12C...

Out in Sydney there was a guy selling live Lobsters out of his garage.

onewhippedpuppy 12-17-2016 03:16 AM

We are supposed to get ice, 2-3" of snow, and a strong N wind today. I get to test out my new snow tires on the Boxster!

This is one things most people in other parts of the world do not understand when they see the pictures of the guy digging out his basement with remote control trucks and diggers.

You have longer days in summer, and (as a farmer) build up huge stockpiles in summer to get you through the winter, and when winter comes, you occupy indoors with great things most people never get to do as they always spend time off in their summer to "vacation" instead of work longer/harder. :)

oldE 12-17-2016 04:52 AM

The horses still need to be fed and watered when it is minus eighteen (with a wind chill to minus thirty one ). I was just grateful the five inches of powder that landed in my driveway the other day all blew away again.
Best
Les

This is a project started years ago. When it was going Viral, lots of people couldn't understand how a person could have the time or interest to do this.

I was referencing that some people can keep working on a hot rod because of a winter storm.

Other places in the world, if they suddenly had your weather, would be shut down and not doing anything. Instead, for you, and the area you live, there is a life stile of setting up work to do indoors when the weather is bad, as you can always count on frigid weather every winter.

This may be part of why there are a lot of great northern artful wood carvings and stone work, but very little of that on the Florida coast.

JJ 911SC 12-17-2016 10:52 AM

... and its not even Winter yet.

To think last years at this time people here were playing golf...
