Gone in 60 secs, but for real, fire kitty outruns helicopter
Happened in Houston. Quick skim of the article (haven't watched the video yet), apparently someone stole a hellcat, then outran the cops and the cop copter, but then ran out of gas and hid in the woods. Couldn't hide from the copter that time.

I blame Art Acevedo. He didn't present a budget to catch up with the horsepower.

The Jet Ranger will do 130 kts/150 mph and cut corners.
They must have been flying something else.

Weird, the link that I posted above is dated yesterday, but the chase/video is from 2017.
https://abc13.com/mohmed-ahmed-abu-shlieba-hellcat-dodge-houston-police-department-chase-suspect/3627759/ WHen I watched the video, I found myself thinking "this seems really similar" and once I fastforwarded to the end, I was certain that I'd seen it before. The guy got 3 years for the chase.

The first helo just had to eventually turn back for fuel - I’m guessing they were on limited fuel when the pursuit started. The cops and news crew in their own helo stayed with the perp who eventually ditched the Hellcat (probably ran it out of gas) and found him hiding in a big field with some cattle when the local sheriff helo with FLIR got on the scene.
Impressive car but a bad guy in one isn’t gonna outrun helos and radios, FLIR cameras or dogs. I’m impressed that he didn’t kill himself or anyone else driving like that. |

Pretty shoddy police work. You should never be able to outrun the radio....

At the same time, at least the cops weren't on his butt pushing him to make some mistake at 130 on a freeway full of other traffic.

I'm not sure what the police could have done down the road given the speed and potential for a brutal accident. The perp was driving pretty decently. I'm glad masraum posted the length of his incarceration as that was not available when the vid first came out. Three years I'm thinking equates to a good lawyer, kid was remorseful and judge was in a good mood. Grand Theft Auto - two to ten years Reckless vehicle operation - 30 days max Deadly Conduct (A person commits an offense if he recklessly engages in conduct that places another in imminent danger of serious bodily injury.) Two to ten years if they bump it to 3rd degree felony Fleeing police - Third degree felony if using a vehicle. Probably two to ten years. More than likely a host of others. Those cars have 1/2" fuel lines, FWIW.
