Insect protein
 

Hey ignorance is bliss, right?
Do we really care what is inside that delicious hotdog or McNugget?

Soy protein is already commonplace but many people are allergic to GMOs.
Plant vs. animal protein might not be absorbed the same.
Production value requires less space, less resources, and less pesticides/antibiotics/etc.
It should yield lower food cost for consumers with higher profits for manufacturers.
It may be much healthier.
Many people in third countries use insects as dietary staples in traditional dishes, why shouldn't we?

For the same reason we own classic cars.

There are tons of edible things that are off the menu for most Americans because of the bounty of normal food. Zero doubt, it anyone gets really hungry, as in no food for days, they will eat almost anything even remotely edible.

Why eat a pile of bugs when I can have a nice steak.

One of my friends was an retired Army Ranger. He would not eat chicken or turkey. I asked him why and he said he had to eat a lot of raw birds in survival training. He vowed to never eat any bird ever again. I am happy to say I have never been so hungry that a raw bird was an option. Same for a cockroach. He ate lots of roaches under the right circumstances.

It would not bother me one bit were insect protein used in food processing.

On the other hand, I ceased all consumption of McDonald's products (save for the occasional egg McMuffin) ever since I learned of pink slime.

Some o' them bugs are mighty tasty. Nutty flavor. Ultimate in protein packaging, too.

i ate a lot of insects in Cambodia. most of them were kinda delicious

Have had two dogs that were alergic to soy products. One of them liked and ate okra fresh on the vine. The other pretty much kept the house bug free.

The dog I have now basically eats any creepy crawly it can catch or dig up. Does not seem alergic to dog foods with soy, but will put off eating it for several days.

Is that insect bar cheaper than the alternatives already out there? If so I would have no problem eating them.

I draw the line on spiders. I have seen a picture of the Angelina J (celebrity) eating what appears to be a tarantula. That was also on the menu on an old Fear Factor show. No freaking way - not happening in my world.

I was headed out to work early and stumbled onto a radio talk show where they started reading off the "acceptable amount of insect parts" in average American food.

We are already eating insect protein, have been for some time.
