Do Good Looking People Get a Pass?

In school, sports, even jobs, would you say good looking people get more grace then average or ugly people? Do the 'chosen' get to slide more, are expected to produce less, allowed more liberties in their actions? I would think so, or maybe they are held at a higher standard because in our society we equate looks with talent and smarts?

Need one more choice in the poll:
"It really doesn't matter to me"
(not trying to be a sa)

KFC911 03-22-2017 03:48 AM

How the hell would I know :)???

...but yes.

Reminds me of a line from an old Seger song...

"She had been born with a face that would let her get her way...."

WPOZZZ 03-22-2017 03:51 AM

You betcha!

BK911 03-22-2017 04:30 AM

No doubt.
I will hold a door open for minutes for the hottie so I can check out her turd cutter.
But let it slam on her ugly friends face!
Ain't nobody got time for dat.

So far it's been pretty good.

Let me give you an example of why I answered this YES - Good looking people get a pass...

We have friend named Kevin. Years ago he was dating a smokin' hot psycho chick. Always some obnoxious drama with this girl. Nasty mean person. They got in a big fight one day. While he went to work, she cleaned out his bank account, threw him out of his apartment and wrecked his car.

A week later they were back together. I asked him "what the hell Kevin - why are you with this @#$#?"

To which he replied, with a straight face... "She's got great tits."

This is not gender-specific.
Back in my younger days (20 yrs. ago or so) my g/f at the time would often say to me, after some sort of disagreement/argument, "You're just damn lucky to be handsome."
It's been my experience that for every man that comments on women's physicality, a woman will comment on how handsome, good-looking, and cute a man is.
Pretty universal, I'd say.

ossiblue 03-22-2017 06:40 AM

Just look at this thread for your answer.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/off-topic-discussions/950396-another-teacher-has-inappropriate-relations.html

Though most of the comments are "in jest," they underlie the basic favoritism given to good looking people. If the perp was a double for "Mamma June" Shannon, I doubt there would be anything but hostility in that thread. I'm sure that those who read that thread wonder why such a "hottie" has to prey on minors whereas if she was considered ugly, the thoughts would be likely be aimed at how sick she is. The jokes would be directed toward the point that she was too unattractive to have a relationship with an adult so she preyed on minors.

To use a clinical term, your friend Kevin is a couple of yards short of a first down. :(

Does he spend his days buying new cars for strippers?

island911 03-22-2017 06:52 AM

To the OP - No.

Good looking people have advantage with slightly less good looking people, but then have the problem with the ugly people who are pissed that --as they will tell the world-- "good looking people are (unfairly) allowed more grace.

Ever have someone want to key your Porsche, just because they don't have one? Jealousy can be nasty.

Being smart also pisses people off. Which is why smart people tend to hide it.

scottmandue 03-22-2017 06:54 AM

Next I suppose we should discuss if being rich makes life easier?

It is not good or right but it is pretty undeniable that good looking people get better breaks in life.

I would say that possibly it is not even a conscious choice by us that are giving the break... if you go to the shelter to pick out a puppy you probably won't pick the ugly one.

You do an amazing job, if that's the case.

Tobra 03-22-2017 08:00 AM

What is it that makes you so bitter?

Tervuren 03-22-2017 08:21 AM

Its very situational.

Everyone that isn't blind is effected by looks, but the reactions differ from person to person.

Try getting a job as a hot female when the owner's jealous wife is the one doing the hiring...SmileWavy That one ain't happening. In certain professional situations, really really good looks can be an impediment to females, their looks will be distracting, and the potential employer will realize this.

Good looks combined with charisma can really help empower a skunky or weaselly guy over gullible people.

How a person carries their self is even more important than their natural "looks", the looks just help in a picture, good carriage gives presence and advantage in person even from a plain or otherwise ugly person.

The females that I am most attracted to, while a certain base level of looks is important, the real "wow" factor comes from their conduct and carriage.

Being good looking can be like driving a low to the ground car, handling is improved, but somewhere a real speed bump of a person is gonna tear you up.

Used to live with a runner up miss Iowa.

I left because I became convinced she would eventually murder a dozen people and I would be the one who went to prison for it.

djmcmath 03-22-2017 09:05 AM

I'm pretty sure there have been studies on this. People who are viewed as "more attractive" have slight advantages in all kinds of things, from job interviews to waitstaff tips to whether or not people perceive them as being trustworthy.

BK911 03-22-2017 09:06 AM

Roughly 15% of the US population is over 6' tall.
Almost 60% of US CEO are over 6'.
4% are taller than 6-2, but 30% of CEO.
Not specifically good looks, but aesthetics definitely have an impact.

Later heard she married a doctor old enough to be her dad and destroyed his life.

If you've ever seen "Bringing Up Baby" you'll kind of understand what it was like. Only after a time th wacky hijinx turned to sadism and felonies.
