Son got a new ride............

He went out and bought a used (2016) Porsche Macan S. Has the 340 hp twin turbo V6 and full time all wheel drive. Lots of options including front heated and cooled seats and heated rear seat. It is a Porsche CPO car w/3 yr warranty. A picture:

Maybe now he won't be trying to steal my 911!

Congrats to your son! I've heard great things about the Macans - hopefully your 911 is now safe!

Porsche loaned me one while may car was in for service, sadly a base 4 banger but it also had cooled seats, I must say that is a cool option (sorry, not meant as a pun).... Nice purchase, I liked that thing as a practical 4 seater (even the 4-cyl, but the S has to be much better)... It drove well for its size and height !

Have cooled seats in my ES350. Once you have them. You'll never want to be without them. Especially in a hot climate. Gotta keep the boys cool.

Congrats to your son on his Macan. I look forward to the day when my kids are buying nice cars for themselves!

Congrats Fred!
My son got his wife a new ride this past weekend too.
They were looking at Audi's but ended up with this:

It's got heated/cooled seats too and so many other options it isn't even funny.
Good thing they're both engineers!

Man...now I'm jealous! I don't have a son or a wife to buy a new Porsche for!

Life is hard sometimes.....

Hey congrats to your son, Fred!

Cooled seats are amazing, I have them in my truck. Best option ever.

Glen's wife just bought a new one.

I'd like a drivers report!

How is the seating, room wise, head room wise?

The Macan or the RR ? Assuming Macan:
Porsche loaned me one for 2 days... Was the 4 cyl so no S-level acceleration report but even the 4 banger turbo was "adequate", actually (280 lb/ft)... In terms of driving, it was very nice, the dash and interior is very Porsche, it's really like being in a tall 991 from the driver seat - same look and gizmos/buttons. Comfortable, great driving position, the aforementioned vented seats are awesome, no head room issues at all (6ft). One dash display can be changed to show you where the torque is going from front to back wheels and yuo can feel that happen dynamically... Handling was pretty good but it's still a tall and heavier box than a 991, no miracles here, more dynamic than my wife's range rover sport and more RWD-feeling (in a good way) but less power on this model so I won't compare...
Space wise for an SUV it's not "that" practical honestly, I could not talk my wife into one vs. her Range rover sport, back seat room is OK and the trunk pretty average... If you want to carry more people or stuff in a Porsche, it's still Cayenne, this is more along the lines of a tall regular car in usability to me (maybe more backseat room though, can't remember, kids sat there)...

I'd have one (with a bigger engine, ideally GTS) if I needed comfortable transportation with a higher seating position, that can occasionally be fun, and it's a good looking SUV...

One word about PDK: Very impressive bit of kit, quick & smooth shifts, with one flaw - same as all the PDK-like systems I've tried or owned: If you are coming to a stop (just about to stop) and all of a sudden change your mind and need to go, the box is totally unprepared and does absolutely nothing for what feels like an eternity, and then BANGS a shift hard and off you go snapping your neck. But they all do that...
