RIP Don Rickles
His appearances on Johnny Carson were legendary!
And he was a 'must-have' for any roast..... <iframe width="853" height="480" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/sszW0-s8suY" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
Rickles comes in at the one minute mark.....

A very funny guy. RIP Mr Rickles.
On the Carson show one night, he mocked a couple of Japanese tourist in the audience.
Got in their faces (nose to nose) and abjectly ridiculed them for their physical appearance...non stop...just went on and on. Never like the man's style. |
He made a career from being an ass.
A throwback from another era... wouldn't last a minute in today's PC climate. RIP.
Thought his work was hilariously viscious but completely even-handed. Was told he would end his shows with sincere expressions of thanks and humility. People .came to see his sharp wit and would imagine were rarely disappointed as he was so far over the top that taking it seriously would have been nearly impossible. One of his last appearances must have been an episode of Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee. Still pretty dang funny. RIP. :(

Run Silent Run Deep...wt Clark Gable he was in.

I thought he was an ass, too. I never got the humor until I realized the genuineness of his off-stage kindness and humility. I should have known that the famous people he ridiculed would not put up with his acerbic tongue were it not an act.
My great uncle used to play golf wt him when was performing at the Sahara. They didnt care to play with him because they were scratch golfers and would bet. They didnt want to take his money because he wasn't that good.
Always liked his act.
Him and Rodney Dangerfield were my fav comedians. |
From Bill Murray's Faceplant page: "RIP Mr. Warmth"
There's a great documentary on Netflix (I hope) "Mr Warmth". You can see his compassion and love for his friends.
Well, he's truly the last of the Mohicans. I can remember when I'd go in the Hamburger Hamlet on Sunset and Doheny any day of the week and see Dean Martin hanging out at the bar, watching TV and having a couple. Doesn't seem like that long ago. RIP.

Sad Day......I got to hang with him when I was in boot camp in San Diego. He was filming CPO Sharkey, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/C.P.O._Sharkey WE spent 3 days filming and nothing we did was aired. He would bring us food, I really liked him as he treated all of the recruits great. We lost 3 days of Navy training because of the TV production we never got to touch a gun much less fire one. I always wondered about that I was unprepared to serve because of Don Rickles.
I never liked his brand of comedy. What's so funny about hockey pucks?
WWII Navy veteran ...RIP
