R.I.P. Dan Rooney

Sad news, Dan Rooney passed away today at age 84. I am not sure how many non-football or non-Pittsburgh fans would know who he is, but he was a true gentleman and a very humble individual. (he also served as ambassador to Ireland for (3)years). I was fortunate enough to have had personal interaction with the Rooney family, and to have been a fan of their excellent organization since the 1970's. Regardless of how one feels about the team itself, the Rooney family has been well respected and have personified "class" in a league where flash, crassness and the pursuit of money have often been rewarded.

RIP sir. You will be missed

Never liked the Steelers. Always liked Mr Rooney, class act, which is becoming all too rare.

A great man.

That's from an OLD life-long Browns fan who saw them as a kid in Cle stadium put Bradshaw in 2nd half, because Terry Hanraddy was the starter and it was pre-season.

RIP, Dan Rooney. He had a formula that worked and it was unique in the NFL.

Side note. Attended Kent State in early 80's and wandered into the new gym (which was a big stink when they built it as it was placed on the venue where some of the shootings were). Looking at all the trophies in the glass cases. Damn, I see Kent took the Mid-American Conference several years in a row in the early 70's. Nice. I dig deeper into the pictures and such from that era. Jack Lambert played for Kent in those years.

As a football fan growing up was always a Cowboys fan, with Staubach being my all time favorite. When Jerry took over I became dismayed. Fired Tom Landry with a phone call. Just not right. As his foolish persona and general mismanager ways took over I lost all interest in the team. Then, I for several years ran a valet service in an establishment he and the family frequented. What a bunch of cold pompous fish. More and more I gravitated towards the Steelers mainly because the way the organization is ran and for that we must shine the light on Mr. Rooney. Class. The anti Jerry. I hope the organization will continue on in his example for many moons to come.

Well said Eric. Pittsburgh has lost two legends within a few months, Mr. Rooney & Mr. Palmer.

Yazhound, less we forget what jones did to the Packer & Steeler fan when the SB was in Dallas. jones is the anti-Rooney. He'll be cleaning toilets in hell.
