San Diego hotels....

My daughter and son in law have a wedding to go to in San Diego in August. The hotel some of the guests are staying at is the Kimpton Salomar. They think it is a little too pricey at $240 us a night. Does anybody know of a hotel close or fairly close to the Kimpton Salomar that is cheaper but still good?
Thanks in advance!

The convention center is right there. It has been a long time since I stayed in San Diego, but there are three Marriott hotels in close proximity. If they are OK in Little Italy, these is a Marriott Residence Inn. (West not far from the Airport, but still 5 minutes to Gas Lamp by Uber).

If they are willing to travel to/from Coronado, there is always the Hotel Del Coronado.

The Mariott is right nearby and nice with bay view. Don't know the current rates. Lots of choices downtown depending on budget and travel dates.

IMO just stay there. San Diego is an expensive place to visit, and you'll save $40 looking elsewhere but you'll spend it on cabs.

Hotel prices vary widely depending on the day of the week, whether there is a convention or game in town, etc. We would really need to know the dates. We always like the Sofia as a great budget hotel in SD.

Most, if not all downtown hotels will be fairly pricey, I think. You could try Priceline's Express deals and see what a downtown hotel would cost in the short term and use that information when August comes around. The Holiday Inn at the corner of Harbor Drive and Nimitz Blvd is about 8 minutes away and can be had for under $100 with the Express deal I mentioned. Mission Valley West is about 10 minutes away using I-163 south into downtown and there are plentiful hotels there for around $100.

I've stayed in that hotel. It is well worth it. By the time they pay to get around to see their friends it will all equal out. Just stay there.

I also remember paying $20 for breakfast in that area. Just FYI

If they are renting a car during their stay they also should factor in a parking fee as a lot of the hotels charge for that too.
