What is the best way to market my 914/6?

It's time for me to sell my 914/6. I am retiring and have other interests. I have owned it for 16 years.

The car is ready to sell. There is no rust but has some dents, scratches, and chips.
It is very quick with the 3.2 and 915 transmission.

I have sold many sub $10,000 vehicles local and privately but I suspect this will be a whole different senerio.

The thoughts and ideas of the Pelican Braintrust are respected and appreciated.

I think I'd list it on Bring a Trailer. Do it by the end of the month and it'll only be $49 or so. Worth checking out IMO.

Isn't Rennsport coming up next year? Maybe make a Youtube video with the tag 914-6 and put for sale in the title. Someone who is looking for one will literally type that in Google.

Don't they aren't marketable at this time, everybody wants turbos and 911S's and whatever.
Sell it to me for 5 grand , knowing it will go to a good home. It will not be alone in the stable, as it will have a Cayman to talk to, they are not dissimilar so they should get along quite well.

$50,000

Yes I know it doesn't have the original engine or trans, but I'm not asking $90,000 for it either.

Go over to 914world.com - The largest online 914 community! It should get some action over there. The VIN# if an oem 6 will bring a premium. A 47XXXX, a bit less. GLWS.

I've sold some pretty pricey cars over the years. EBay is by far the best way to get the most domestic and international exposure. Don't write off international buyers, I sold a 1989 930 cab for six figures to a buyer in Germany several years ago. It is pricey, a good ad with lots of photos will run you at least $50/week.

With that said, I would start by giving it a week on Bring a Trailer before EBay. Porsches seem to do well there, particularly by owner sales with a long and documented pedigree. You can easily interact with the community and answer questions based on your 16 years of ownership. If that doesn't yield a sale, then move on to EBay.

If bring a trailer isn't your cup of tea, the guys over at autokennel seem to do quite well at bringing top dollar for hot rods and other interesting porsches, like yours.

I put a listing on ebay with a couple of pictures and a little general info, AND a link to a web page that has lots and lots of pictures and lots of info. Including details of any negatives for the car.

The ebay add is kind of a teaser so an interested buyer will click on the link.

I usually get a few new listing, tire kicker, flipper low ball offers when the ad first posts. It is very obvious they haven't clicked on the link with more info. Just tell them their offer would make a good down payment and go on.

No matter where you list it, it takes from two to four months before tge next owner comes along that appreciates the car. Pays at or very near the asking price and is very happy that they got the car as well.

My first Porsche was a very nice 76 914 2.0, red/tan and had A/C. What fender flairs are those? Does it have A/C added?

How many years ago was that?

Pretty sure that eBay doesn't allow links in their listings these days, been that way a while, actually.

I don't have anything to add to the above advice, it sounds pretty solid to me. eBay/BAT ought to do it.

Thanks for your selling info.

The flairs were on the car when I purchased it.Some have suggested they are rabbit arches.

No, there is not A/C added.

I'm really not trying to sell this car in this off topic thread.

Real 6 or replica?

The reason I ask is because I have the correct engine and gearbox (type) for the car.

Real 6 or conversion from a 4 banger. Don't think any aftermarket company made a replica.....just sayin'....

Man, I love that car. I remember seeing it a long time ago at a North Hills autocross, and at Hershey .
I would be willing to drive it around with a for sale sign on it for you if you would like. I'm local.... Just kidding, best of luck with the sale. It was really nice last time I saw it in person.

Paul at Autokennel has recently sold a couple of my cars, including my 914-6, and done well with them. Fix all of the dings, scratches and whatnot, get it professionally detailed top and bottom and make sure it has no mechanical needs. The more documentation and history you can supply, the better.
