BMW Fires

As a current owner of a '12 335, the recent news about sudden mysterious fires in BMWs caught my attention.

ABC Report:
Parked BMWs bursting into flames leave owners with questions - ABC News

After reading more about it however, was ABC a little unfair towards BMW?

I've witnessed one car fire in my life, and it was an older American car that had been parked in the parking lot at work. Intense fire, and hot! Had it been parked in a garage, could easily burn the whole thing down.

I'm sure this is a risk for any car... right?

And Audi.

Audi first ignores, then announces recall after Ontario woman’s car catches on fire - Toronto | Globalnews.ca

Any car? Possible, of course, lots of combustibles and enough battery power to create a lot of heat.

But it should be a very very rare event.
