It's not really surprising people are losing that skillset... Run flats are fairly prevalent, lots of manufacturers don't even include a spare anymore, and in many cases there is nowhere to put the defective wheel in the car if you have passengers (at least 996 onwards, ahem).. Wheel size also makes it a physical thing - I taught my wife how to change a tire, but she physically could not lift a modern land rover wheel into position or throw flat in the trunk - hell I barely can, especially with the new studless mounts.

All in all tire changing is going the way of the manual transmission. Last time I asked about a manual in a porsche dealership the salesman called me a dinosaur and laughed me out of there. Last time I change a wheel on my 991 in the confines of my garage sandwiched between the wall and the car I nearly blew a disc (a spine one). Oh well...

I had to change the tire on my Cayenne in pouring rain no less when I hit something in the road. I was very pleased to find Porsche includes an aluminum stud guide with the jack.

Until fairly recently Porsche did offer manual transmission on the Cayman GTS.
