How to preserve patina on faux gas pump ?
Bought this metal faux gas pump this morning as an exterior decoration for my garage . It's welded steel and painted . No clue what type of paint is on it . Any ideas on a clear that is paint friendly to preserve the current patina ? That will hold up outside ?

I think I'd just hose it with WD40. Crown makes a clear (very lightly amber) rust inhibitor that works great on tools and machines. They also make one that is amber, so double check. And you can use that as a basis for a comparison search.

Derek from Vice Grip Garage sells a clear that you use on a car to preserve the patina;

This... I've seen it used on vintage cars with failed paint. It's stops the surface rust getting worse.

I spray this stuff on anything and everything, and it's cheap. Something like yours I'd give it three coats. It locks out air and moisture well.
I spray it over steel gates I've welded. 1K so doesn't contain isocyanates.

50/50 mix... Applied with a rag.
Be careful with the rags. Don't put them in the trash. They can self combust (linseed oil).
