Anyone else here use Elastomeric paint for thier home?

Still doing great 17 years later!

I'm located between the Atlantic Ocean and the Intercoastal Waterway and my house sits up high on a dune ridge so a lot of exposure.

Been through multiple hurricanes with very high winds and rains driven at high speed.

I painted my house myself using this process:

1. pressure wash
2. scrape and wire brush any loose material by hand
3. apply primer by hand (roller and brush)
4. tape off and spray

I used two different kinds of primer - one for masonry and one for wood. Most of my house is concrete block but I also have some wood siding.

I gave her two coats using a gas motor sprayer - like a pressure washer with different type spray wand obviously and a suction tube I dropped into my 5 gal. paint bucket.

My house is a single story 2 Bdr. 2 Bath - not large.

Ended up using approx. 22 gallons of Elastomeric.

Not sure how many cans of primer.

Once you get that sprayer going - it's easy to get carried away! I painted a few things I hadn't originally intended to like some fence partitions and my garage door (fiberglass).

Anyway...just wondering what some experiences were from the collective.

Same here. Last time the beach house was painted, my friend Federico did the best job out of all of them. I have no clue what he used, but it came out better than the previous 3 times that different painters did it. Perhaps paint is getting better too.

I didn't know about elastomeric paint for walls. I'll have to do some investigation into its advantages. I do have an elastomeric coating on my roof. That involved two coats of asphalt emulsion and two coats of elastomeric roof coating. I used 22, 5 gallon cans of the emulsion and 22, 5 gal. cans of the elastomeric coating. I decided to put it on to extend the life of my flash down membrane roof and reduce the heat under the roof during the warm season. It's been on eight years+ and I applied another thin,top coat last year. So far it's worked pretty well. Today's high temp was 94 while the inside high temp was 75. I open the three windows during the night to cool the inside down & close things up in the mornings.

That is a good life span for an elastomeric. We use them all the time but generally topcoat them with a 100% acrylic for color and sheen retention. Most elastomerics tend to fade quickly.
