The high school kid was on the local radio today.

Called the number, didn't leave a message when it went to voice mail.
Then left a text message.

The kid was surprised when his phone rang during journalism class, and "James M" showed up as the caller. Yes, the kid put him in his contacts.

Pretty classy for the nation's Secretary of Defense to take the time for this.

I worked with then LtCol Mattis in the mid 1980's at 7th Marines, Camp Pendleton - it was a no brainer to see that he was on the way up.. I learned some valuable leadership lessons from him. Not surprised at all by this story. Semper fi!
