I just think it's cool that he bought the car and chose to drive it 1000 miles in the first week.

That's why I respect Leno as a car guy. He is a regular guy who loves cars, spends time learning about them, then got paid a crapton of money and now drives what he wants to.

I saw him at the ALMS race at Laguna Seca maybe 16 years ago. He was by himself, on Saturday, walking around the paddock.

Well, the new one won it's class... hardly the same feat as the originals, which won the event four times overall, breaking a six-year Ferrari streak of success.

While we are at it, the original name of the original car was a Ford GT, not GT40.

There was indeed a street version, with wire wheels, although there were very few of them build (7, I think.)

I don't find the newest car particularly interesting, either aesthetically or technically, and I certainly wouldn't throw a half million dollars at it.

I concur, of course this car is badazz but the styling... well, it just looks like any of the other dozens of super cars.

And for $500K I could pick up two or three really nice cars and put some money in the bank.

Add me to those who love Leno, nice to see one of the good guys living the dream, anyone else watching Jay Leno's garage?

I had an opportunity to buy half of one. I had a partner, he had a very good friend who was a Ford dealer that had one car coming in, and we could have bought it at list price.

Bet you could have made a tidy six figure profit. The wife probably would have approved of that.

He says he has never spent the Tonight Show money. He just lets his wife of many years have that money. He only spends the money he makes from standup and other sources on his cars. He is the definition of a true car guy. Not just cars but motorcycles, steam engines and car memorabilia.

I was told not a single Ferrari in his collection because he doesn't like them. Anybody know if this is true?

javadog 08-05-2017 10:39 AM

I believe he's owned them in the past, at least one or two, but has been put off by the buying experience you go through at a modern Ferrari store. I got fed up with the marque for similar reasons. 20 or 30 years ago, a dealer was happy to buy, sell or work on just about any Ferrari. Now, they have no interest in the older stuff and they want to cultivate clients that buy each new model as they come out, trading in their old cars in the process, so those can be passed on to the next, lower tier of clients. You have to spend a while in the lower tier before you get options to buy the good stuff.

Though seems odd, Mr Leno has a lot of old cars in his collection. I would think he could find a very nice used Ferrari from a private seller and skip going to a dealership.

That was an interesting read. Only did the first page, but it was enough.
