2006 GMC Sierra 1500 Door Latch Actuator
My dad owns a 2006 GMC Sierra 1500 truck, crew cab. The front driver's side door will not lock because the yellow plastic piece below is broken. The yellow rod's circular shaped end that holds the door locking rod in place has broken tabs and will not retain the rod in the hole. I cannot use JB Weld or anything like that because the rod has to rotate and pivot in the hole. Any ideas? I cannot find this part on the net. To replace the assembly, it is near $150. All that it needs is the yellow bar.
Thanks in advance, David ![]() ![]()

You just need a metal rod to replace cheap GM plastic.
I fixed a GM door latch which broke just like that. Dad's Geo Metro. The latch was like $250 or something ridiculous. Coat hanger glued into the hollow white piece? This needs to be strong. Maybe drill a hole a hook it all the way through. Put small greased washers to pancake and protect the pivot arm end. And bend it back again on the other side of the pivot to secure. I had a spare sitting here for 2 years from when I replaced my door. I would have given it to you . Fudge, I just cleaned up 2 weeks ago, and tossed it , thinking I would never use it. That's how it goes ...

If I were you (and your glad I'm not) I'd be hitting the pick-a-part places or checking e-bay for a $50 used assembly:

These would be sold at autozone, etc. What do you call them?

Thanks for all the replies. I searched for hours for that specific rod. On the looped end, the tabs were broken so it would not retain the rod. The other end has two metal contact points that control the dome light when the door was open.
My dad found a local body shop that had an old one that did not work. He gave the needed piece and installed it for $80. All is well because getting to that particular piece is a pain in the butt. Thanks all!
