plumbing help !!!
 

Shower in our soon to be retirement house has had a drip that has been driving me nuts . It is a Delta two handle pretty straight forward to repair . Went to HD today and bought new valve inserts and seats/springs .

Went to remove the handles and escutchions all went well . Pulled the old valve inserts and seats/springs no problems . Went to install the new when I heard a clunk and then something hitting the floor in the wall . The dumba$$ builder/plumber apparently placed a board between the shower valve body and the fiberglass shower but didn't attach it to anything !!! So it fell down . No access without cutting a hole in the bedroom wall .

I just need something to stabilize the valve body so when I tighten up the escutchions there is something to tighten up against . The only thing that comes to mind is shooting some Great Stuff foam or similar. Even though the valve body is flopping around I turned the water on and the drip is solved . I really don't want to cut an access panel at this time as I am not planning on replacing the shower valve . Any other suggestions ?

Cut the hole and fix it right, probably be the cheapest easiest way to boot, repairing drywall is pretty simple.

Do it right! Cut an access hole and fix the valve to some structure. Yes it's not what you wanted to do, but you can securely affix it that way. Drywall is easily patched.

No access from the other side of the wall?

If not - you know what you have to do.

The other side of the wall is in our master bedroom and no there is no access currently . Our other house was the same way and I cut a panel for that one . You guys are right I'll cut a hole ( square ) and fix it right and I'll install an access panel so future access is easy . The other bathroom in this house is the same way , I guess the builder couldn't spare the ten bucks :rolleyes:

Was there ever any doubt....I've seen your builds, fixins, and restores before :)

It's your master bedroom, I wouldn't add an access panel, just repair and paint, you'll probably never need to go in there again once you secure the fixture.

In the event these are just euphemisms I suggest you see a urologist.

Yeah from a very early age my father drilled into me fix it right or not at all . In this case I was weak and looking for the easy way out :( which is out of character .
And I will add an access panel so if I need to change out the valve at some point in time I will be able to do so with limited disruption to the master bedroom . I can paint the panel to match or cover it with a wall painting if needed . Form and function . Thanks guys for making me wake up :D

Hold the valve in place with wire and shoot some heavy foam insulation around it.. That foam glued my (dearly beloved) e21 together for years.
