Harvey Donations

Guys, saw a TV ad, and we checked it out. If you donate at Wal-Mart, they will add double what you donate. Effectively tripling your donation. It all goes to the Red Cross for Harvey relief. Sounded to good to be true, right?

Cindy just returned from our local Wal-Mart after making a donation. It's true!

PLEASE give somewhere but the Red Cross isn't all squeaky clean and honest:

The watchdogs raised red flags Monday when the Red Cross said a portion of the half a billion dollars in 9/11 contributions would go toward other, broader services such as a blood reserve program, a national outreach effort and a telecommunications upgrade.

Isn't Salvation Army down there?
I've been giving to them for years...certainly not the Red Cross...for obvious reasons.
First heard about their shenanigans back when Elizabeth Dole was running their show.

Really?????? You're pissed because they give 90% of money collected to disaster relief? Well, whatever...

What that actually says is that 90% of what they spend goes to various programs, (not just disaster relief). That's a bit different from saying 90% of what they collect. But the bottom line is that they appear to be getting better after some pretty hideous scandals bad practices in the near past.

My brother is deep in that business and once told me never to give to the ARC. The international RC is a lot better, however.

^^^^ Not a fan of the ARC, United Way, and a few others, though I have donated to both, and do also to the IRC for foreign disasters. The Salvation Army, or local groups is where my $ go....YMMV.

Our company has a Company Store in both Houston and Corpus Christi.
We are taking donations of stuffs at our main facility in OKC and are going to truck the stuff down to our company locations.

Like the Salvation Army. Have family that are actual uniform wearing members.
