After actually viewing the episode, put me in the 'like' camp for the new wing.
What's no to like? Penned by the chap that designed the car? Increased rear downforce another 25%? Along the way, I also learned a bit about fiberglass fabrication. Bill K |
I feel like I learned a lot about reality TV fabrication:
• Guy sells a Grey Market car so rare that only 12 are known to exist in the US for 5,000 less than his asking price - which apparently is far less that other examples of the car are selling for in Europe? Quote:
• Non existent spares show up as if by magic • Designer of the actual car shows up and sketches what he really wanted in a wing. • Wing gets fabricated, the prototype is tested in a full size wind tunnel three states from where the show is produced and a professional moldmaker builds a fixture that will be capable of producing copies. I wonder if you can now buy one in Europe? • Guy buys car back from Mike and Ant for a price still less than European examples are selling for in Europe. (WD Did a similar thing recently with a Honda Civic CVCC. That car was restored to perfection, so perfect that US Honda wanted it for their museum. Don't tell me that Honda didn't make that all happen.) This whole show felt like a scam from the start, but having said that, I like Ant - maybe he's a little too eager but he seems like a genuine car guy. I liked the third wing. When I first read about it here, I was thinking it was some cobbled together mess. It's not. It looks good, and we know it adds downforce, at least according to the guys in Utah!! (They didn't say anything about any extra drag that it produced, though!) I've got the show set up to record, and I'll watch until I get bored. |
You guys watch Garage Squad? While I can appreciate the show, and their intent, seems they do not want to preserve originality...they essentially ruined a low number series I 240z and pimped it out with all kinds of carbon fibre and aftermarket stuff. Shame.
|
Brad that was Counting Cars that did that to the Z, but yeah, I agree.
|
just had a look at it.
the new wing looks like ****. |

If the guys they are helping get a car finished they they guy wanted to pimp it out that's fine with me. If the guy obviously collect a bunch of stock parts and they toss em to pimp it out, Well that sucks.
Know a guy that has a really fun drivable 356 speedster. Different suspension, brakes, engine, trans, etc. BUT he has all the original parts put together on a roll around rack for display. All that stuff can be swapped back for stock. |

I see all of the things you mentioned, and pretty much agree. And what Counting Cars did to the pristine Z was an abomination. Turn an all original car into a carbon fiber monstrosity. In a few years some enthusiast will be undoing all that to put it back to stock and wondering why anyone would screw up a nice car so bad. The good news, it ain't my car. |
Considering Edd and Ant work apparently for free, it's a good idea to get those guys to buy your cars and buy it back later... Cheaper than paying hourly rate on restoration, really...
|
At least now they're including the man hours needed for the work that was completed. It used to irk me to no end that they didn't include labor--especially since that's where nearly all the money is spent.
I think they showed 53 hours of labor on the Escort..so what...an extra $5k? |

<iframe width="854" height="480" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/fXVwRvPC04c" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> ...it was #89, but they kept a whole lot of the originality of that car, and I don't consider what they did to be "pimped out." They built it up like some fairly famous Z from back in the day IIRC. Fairlady Z or whatever. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1507708091.jpg What Foose/Overhaulin' does is "pimping out." |

Their calculated labor hours are crazy low. Like the one where they changed over an entire fiberglass body on a car frame in 20 hours... |
Well, as the saying goes.............don't let the facts get in the way of a good story...........TV that is
|
after watching the video of why Ed left the show, I give a big thanks to Velocity for ****** things up. It's all about the money, money, money.....
I watched the Escort show, Ant spent more time on the turbo rebuild than pulling the motor. If they manage to buy a Ford RS200, I'd watch it. |
Just saw the second half of tonights show. Much better than last week. No stupid wings.

"Sell-LEE-ka"

|
Yep. Non-red leather would have been the way to go. Always liked those cars.
