Knit beanies worn in the summer

It’s summer here. 90 deg.

Guys is wearing shirts, birkenstocks, T-shirt and a knit hat.

I would get heat stroke. I’m seeing this more and more. Is my own heat index skewed?

I'd be more concerned with the birkenstocks...

Its hotter down here then where you are. The jacket, or hoodie, I don't understand that one. Again, 90+ and they have that thing on em'

Touque.
As in, my touque, eh?

They do a great job of covering up hair loss.

I just wear them when it is cold.

It is for those times when a tinfoil hat seems too formal.

Believe it or not I use wool underwear, socks, and shirts in the summer heat of South Carolina.

There is something to having a nice barrier between you and the sun; yet it still breathes and allows moisture to evaporate and leave.

Think of it like a mobile piece of shade for their head.

The sweat instead of rolling off is allowed to evaporate in a 3d cooling stack.

You'd be surprised at how this adds up into summer comfort. Your sweat is more effective at cooling, and you take on less heat from the sun.

I don't wear a wool hat, but given the results with the wool I do wear when I changed to it I would not consider it daft without further research.

Ones comfort is never a matter when we have a style and persona to portray. I mean, no metrosexual ever said 'hey lets wear these skinny jeans because they're so comfortable'...

Was in Panama last year to view the canal. It was at least 85 and muggy every day.
I think I was the only one wearing shorts out of 4 million people!

Lots of those maroons running around. I even seen them in Houston.

When style is stupid, I'll happily not be considered stylish.

Sweat dripping off cools what it hits rather than where it came from.

Sweat that is absorbed in a close layer and allowed to evaporate cools that layer instead of dripping off and being wasted.

You want a retention layer that wicks moisture in a way it evaporates close to your body instead of dripping off.

You also want a sun insulation layer that stops solar heat sources while having a vented design that allows an air flow through.

Achieve these two goals and comfort in heat/humidity goes up drastically.

Sweat that drips off instead of evaporates off is wasted cooling potential for your body. When it soaks into fabric and evaporates off the fabric it keeps the fabric cooler. When it just drops off bare skin it is wasted.

Shorts work great in low humidity and low sun impact as the sweat can evaporate directly. They do not protect you from solar heat, and in high humidity the sweat dripping off your body isn't helping you.

Wool is supposed to be great for cold AND hot. Breathable, anti-microbial, so doesn't smell, etc....

Still, the one that I have was my dad's old watch-cap in the Navy. It keeps me warm in the winter, and I'm not going to test it in the summer. Socks, etc... are something that I'd try though.

I can't tell you how much this aggravates my wife who grew up on the PNW... where they go jogging... in 50 degree rain... wearing shorts and a T-shirt...

That's ok, eventually they should warm up. I am in Tee shirts and shorts 365 out of the year. Hell, I even work shorts and just a down jacket to get pizza after skiing in Mammoth.

It was 50 with slightly rain this morning along the foothills. I did my usually Saturday bike ride in shorts and a jersey. Froze my fat ass off, after 10 miles, I was comfy and dripping wet

Live in the PNW and have run for years and years that way in 50* rain. The thing is, if you dress warmly to begin with you overheat and then have to strip off the warm stuff and carry it, which is a drag.

That goes for most outdoor athletic pursuits like, hiking, mtn biking, cycling, soccer where you generate a lot of heat after a short amount of time. Channel surfers should dress warmly though.
