Forged in Fire

Just watched the first episode of Season 1. They are already on Season 4. Let's see if it holds my interest. I know, "Reality TV"...

Anybody else watching?

It's one of my favorite reality shows. There isn't alot of B.S. drama, and it's cool to see different methods of forging, and the ways the competitors go about it.

I think my favorite part is seeing the contestant's home forges.

I have been watching for a while. It's interesting to see what they can do with the materials they are given plus it's fun to watch the creativity for the final project they do at their home forge.

I HATE reality shows for the most part. Shows like Forged in Fire actually show off these people's real skills. It is one of the few reality based shows I enjoy.

Being an ex knife and sword maker, it's one of the few shows of that type that I like.

Some of the mistakes they make boggle my mind. Simple stuff.. like not drilling pin-holes BEFORE you heat treat.

Yea, I have been a fan for a while. It is cool to see the process. I figure if they were building at home at leisure they would think to drill the holes for the handle before hear treating. When the clock it ticking it is easy to forget a step in the rush to get a finished blade shaped.

having your drill pin hole done ..
will not get you into the second round..
how it looks, edge, workmanship does that..
if one makes the cut and into the next rounds..
that's when you drill the hole and put it together..

Some of the recovery skills after a catastrophic failure are amazing.

Your weapon, sir, weeel keeel.

Anyone know how Doug got injured?

Found it by accident - and both my kids (6+10) LOVE that show... It's become a family thing now, I'm DVR'ing all past seasons... They take bets on who's getting the boot, and most of the time it's predictable (as in fair, in a good way)... very interesting show...

Some of the challenges lately seem a little goofy. OTOH, some of the knives are amazing.
