That movie "the Grey"
What did you think? Pretty brutal. Are wolves like that?

It was a depressing, grim movie and I found it pretty boring for an 'action thriller'... I far from a wolf expert but as far as I know they do not naturally act like that unless rabid or perhaps desperately starved.

I remember hearing that there is no record of a wolf attacking a human.
I agree the film was depressing and far fetched so and I expected a different ending. And the way it ended made it more depressing. |

Pretty grim movie - reminded me of The Road. No happy endings there. I love Liam Neeson but the CG in this movie was so bad it pretty much ruined the movie for me.
Rather a pity as it had a good story line (grim but good), and a strong central character. As far as how wolves act, when I'm up in Alaska, I see wolves all the time. I keep my distance, and they keep theirs. An animal that is starving in winter is a wild card. When a large wild carnivore is hungry, other creatures are things they can eat or things they might be able to eat. Don't count on them being either predictable or afraid of people. angela

Frozen (2010) - IMDb is similar.
Three skiers trapped and surrounded by wolves. Add a dash of "as far as my feet will carry me" or "seraphim falls" or "black robe" and there is a new blockbuster. |

Pretty rare and usually by elder, starving, or diseased animals.
However... Reports: Wolves attack, kill zookeeper in Sweden’s largest zoo - The Washington Post |

I had high hopes for this movie however it was a big let down for reasons mentioned already.

» The Danger of Wolves to Humans Wildlife Sciences
One paragraph of many from the article: Cases of severe unprovoked aggression by wolves toward humans are numerous, so we touch upon a very dramatic subject. Society needs more complete information on the problem to evaluate the true danger of predatory wolves and take precautions. There are tendencies, even among scientists, to believe that aggression by wolves toward humans is quite rare (138). To overcome this, it is necessary to describe some horrible, heart-stopping details of this aggression in Russia, just for the sake of further safety. This is the only way to persuade people how threatening wolves (i.e. anthropophagy) can be. Yea, rabid wolves are the major problem but even healthy wolves have and will kill and eat humans, especially children.

My wife rented it last night.
I had not previously read this thread, but I did know that everyone dies. I actually kind of liked the movie. Realistic or not with regard to wolves, it was realistic to the personality traits of people... especially people in desperate situations. You have the big talker, the guy draggin down the rest of the group, the annoying c*nt, the average joe.... etc. In the end, they were all prey. In the end, we all die.

I just saw it with my son. I'm not sure what to make of the ending. My son was genuinely angry when it was over.
Good movie with some original ideas but it left me wanting more. Still worth seeing IMO.

There is a final 5 second scene at the end of the credits that's worth seeing.

It was a tough shoot for Liam Neeson.
His wife had just died, previous to this. |

I thought the movie was pretty poor. So many decisions just made no sense to me. Why would they be safer in the woods than in the plane? Why would they have a better chance of rescue anywhere other than the plane crash? Jumping off the cliff to the trees on the other side... really? Several times the wolves come after them, and they tried to outrun them. Ridiculous. The wolves would be on them in a second. Surviving after being completely submerged in freezing water, no dry clothes, no fire, not gonna happen. I feel like they took a cool idea and ruined it. I thought the wolf effects were very fake looking. It reminded me of the wolf in The Never Ending Story (1984). But after all that, I thought the ending was awesome!!! Wish I had known about the extra bit at the end, I'll have to go search for it.

Agree completely. The tree thing was totally ridiculous. Surprised Liam Neelson would make a movie such as this.

I liked the movie. I try not to take any flick to serious. But for reality, na.
Don't even want to get into the whole predator thing. I always get killed by the Odd Ducks of the world that just enjoy killing anything that breaths. Speaking of Odd Duck... To bad he wasn't sterile.
