2018 Travel Thread
Thought I'd start a thread so everyone can pool their travelling/world knowledge to help members choose and plan their 2018 travel trips
So what have you have planned, where are going or where would you like to go? |
Our trip for 2018 will be Portugal. We really like Spain so we thought we should check out Portugal.
My wife’s obsession is traveling and planning for a trip. She probably has over 200 hours of planning before a trip and usually starts about 8 months before hand which really helps getting good Airbnb or hotels. |
I've just come back from a cruise ship tour around New Caledonia and Vanuatu.
For those who are thinking of doing a cruise but don't know to much about it - go for it! Cruise deals can be bought in the off season at about half price. My cruise line was Royal Caribbean. So it was reasonably up market. Don't go P&O unless you are going specifically for young kids. Our Cruise went for about 10 or 11 days leaving and returning to Sydney. The food was great, the wave machine excellent, cocktails (I had the booze package) very good. Service excellent. the fellow travelers were a nice bunch of people too. And it's kinda cool you unpack once :) http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1513551188.JPG |
This year we are heading to budapest, prague, amsterdam and paris. W
Been to paris a few times but the kids wanted a return visit. The other three places havent been to before, otherthan the amsterdam airport. Planning on taking a night train from budapest to prague. |
Hoping to dive the Great Barrier Reef before it’s completely gone / destroyed. Planning to do this trip in either late 2018 or early 2019, funds and free time permitting...

Our 30th Anniversary coming up....going back to Croatia.

i also have a some coworkers from there, giving me advice. like what neighborhood to rent a house in.. i'll be on a personal alert level orange as well. you have any advice to add? |
Just last week, my wife and I got back from a week in the Dominican Republic (Punta Cana). It was the start of the windy season, but the beach was still gorgeous with 4-5' waves rolling in. We stayed at the Iberostar all inclusive Grand Bavaro resort, and really enjoyed the food, and entertainment, had a nice round of golf as well.
|
Not really international travel, but planning a driving/camping loop encircling the great lakes through Canada, hopefully two weeks.
|
Going to western Australia (renting a house near Margaret River) in February. The cool part is we'll be going through Abu Dhabi and we're spending a few days there on the way back. Will get to drive the Yas Circuit, see Ferrariworld, the Louvre, Grand Mosque etc.
We've been all over eastern and southern Australia and NZ but never out west. Really looking forward to it. BTW if you're going to dive the Great Barrier Reef rent a house up there. We've rented from these folks a number of times- luxury properties cheaper than most hotels. https://www.executiveretreats.com.au |
I'll be going to Taiwan this year, and possibly Japan again as well. If I do have some extra time, i'd definitely like to also go check out Bali because I hear it's fantastic out there.
If have the chance to go to Le Mans and/or Goodwood this year, i'll add those to the list too. |
Hope to ride up to the north slope this summer.
