Anyone buying?

Market down 1700 points (Dow) in last two sessions. Fundamentals are all strong. I moved a bit from cash to stock funds late today. Anyone else doing anything?

varmint 02-05-2018 12:49 PM

My broker says wait. A real “correction” is double that.

We’ll see.

Explain yourself....fundamentals....you looking at something I don't see? I reduced my exposure to overpriced equities by another 45% this morning....the tide is goin' out...it's been one helluva 9 year bull run....but no mas...YMMV.

Housing, commodities, unemployment, corporate earnings, yada, yada, yada.

I put my toe in the water at the close today. I dipped into some aerospace and defense industry stocks and a small position in a 2x leveraged S&P 500 ETF. I'm not to sure about the latter but I didn't put too much into it.

I'm bummed that I've watched my portfolio drop but I've been sitting on some cash so I'm looking for some opportunities.

I do agree that it is not over yet though.

I thought you meant market fundamentals...sorry. Those are secondary for most investors imo...they sure don't effect where liquid assets flow imo. Equities are still overpriced...by a lot imo.

Good luck!

I have never tried to time the market. Pros don't even succeed at it (comparing heavily managed funds with indexes). I am too far from needing the money. All my stock is in retirement accounts.

I know a guy who pulled out before the election with the Dow at 18k. Maybe he will have a chance to get back in soon! :)

There's bad skeered...and there's good skeered.

I'm skeered just good enuf to be afeared of bad skeered...

Honestly....I've never, ever attempted to time the markets, not doing so now either. For the first time in over three decades, I've taken chunks out...don't need the returns...nor associated risks, but will always have a % in equities...just a lot less. But the bull run is over imo...this isn't a correction "per se"... but a generational (my age) shift to safer options...YMMV. If I was a young pup...I'd be stayin' in...good luck to all!

Where is the alternative ROI? Sub 3% for institutions don't cut it. They need apx 8%.

I do not see the dynamic to have changed in order for it to be over. A necessary correction because of vasty over bought conditions.

That 8% is an institutional pipe dream...there has been no other option for a LONG time for many...now there is. Time will tell....I see folks seeking safer options to continue to lock in their gains and exit...it's been one helluva bull run ;)

No mas....

wdfifteen 02-05-2018 03:36 PM

Not yet. I thought this would happen 8 months ago. I think there is more downside.

NoRush993/951 02-05-2018 04:12 PM

They are Shaking out the overleverage in the VIX futures shorts. Too much selling forward for income and was way too out of whack are forcing big losses. Money heaven strikes again. Normal when everyone is on the same side of the boat.

sammyg2 02-05-2018 04:27 PM

I'm not making any reactive moves, but I'm cashing in a whole bunch of stock options Monday as soon as they mature.

They've dropped 15% from the peak three weeks ago but still 15% up year over year.
I could sit on them and wait for the upward correction but I'm the type to get while the getting is good.

Once the $$$ are in my account I'll worry about growing them.

+1
We are in the buy back black out window.
Perfect time to shake prices lower.

HardDrive 02-05-2018 05:02 PM

In a word, no. I'm not buying. We've got plenty more to shake out.

Bought a few short term near the money DIA options at the close expecting a dead cat bounce tomorrow, but the way it kept selling off after hours has me mentally writing that $ off.

KFC911 02-05-2018 06:09 PM

Gonna be lots of volatility...that's my prediction ;)
