Rockwell Jawbone.?

i kinda need a temporary work surface. my garage is currently not great for working on projects. between wife's car, laundry, my motorcycle..and all my outdoor gear. just wait until my wife buys backyard furniture and starts looking for a place to store the cushions.

i NEED a bench-vice, but technically i dont even have the bench. i was thinking of getting the Jawbone to hold the block of wood that holds the vice. this thing could even hold the gun cleaning rack..or my bowpress.

anyone use one? i did just install a dog door and had to use a crappy picnic table to elevate the door to waist high. it sucked as a solution.

(i am also eyeballing some worktable/tool box i saw at Costco.) i seriously need to reinvent my garage. STAT!

Huh. That's kinda cool! I got a Yost bench vice this past Christmas. I haven't had a bench vice in many years (the one I had was sold with a house), and I don't know how I ever lived without it!!!! It would be nice to have something portable yet sturdy.

Didn't B&D make something called the "Work Mate"...something like that? I think it was more geared for woodworking...sort of a saw horse with jaws.

I’ve had a Workmate for decades. I think it would be more versatile than the jaw horse if it’s still available.

I also have one (not sure if it is the B&D but very similar) super handy, use it for a bunch of different projects.

Dad has had one (B&D Workmate) for decades and uses it all the time still. It has been very handy for everything form a shooting bench to a saw bench to (and on, and on).

I’ve had a jawhorse for 7 years +\-. It’s a great tool with good clamping. You can get a wider set of “jaws” to handle sheet goods. It’s well built but a little heavy as one might expect. I’ve used I for everything from ripping paneling to holding axels to remove CVs. I’ll also clamp other tools in it like my mitre saw.

I have a workmate that my grandfather got in the early 80s. I am 6’4" and agree it could be a little taller. Still a great tool to have around, used it for many porsche projects.

I have had one since ~1984. When we started out on this lot it was my only work bench and vise. It helped me rebuild our house and build our 2 car garage and 10 x 12 shed. Plus many other projects. I use it to mount my compound miter saw, small 8" table saw etc. It folds up and hangs on a wall.

I don’t know. That’s a question I’ve never been asked.

I've got one, it's a great tool. I've got the optional panel clamps. I've also got a workmate. They both get beat on pretty hard when I've got to get my woodworking on.

Also a big fan of these from Northern Tool.
This has become my 'go-to' workmate.
It also secures my new compound miter saw between the included clamps.

Only thing I don't like is that it's probably 90 % plastic
- definitely will not last as long as my 1971 B&D Workmate.
