I think it'd be pretty good to start out with a 4Runner/Rav4 or a Civic/Accord/Corolla/Camry. I'd almost always consider the first car a writeoff (maybe that's just me). Chances are they'll hit some things along the way or get some nice dings, scratches, and dents here and there, being their first car. It'll also probably save you lots of money on your insurance using more normal cars.

A car is only as fast as how much you mash the gas pedal

There are some situations where 'more is not better'. Young new drivers is one of those. imo. |

Get a Taurus. A tight 2003. 2008 for the looks. Really? South Carolina, no to little rust. Ain't buying the first world hoop d problems. Old Accord or Camry means you are a cruel Dad. Awesome reliability, no spirit. As suggested RAV or Highlander, even the Sorento would be awesome but insurance is more vicious per my read. Taurus. |

Taurus.
Yeah, a quick search showed tranny issues with the taurus. We owned a Cadillac CTS, worst car ever n gave me a bad taste for american branded cars. Lucky i have a little bit to figure things out. Maybe a Camry or Subaru Legacy. |

The insurance, ack ack ack, it was ALL I could afford at 18 and still meet my monthly savings goal. Had to stop racing RC... Care to share the shocking number? My memory is fuzzy, I think it was somewhere north of $1400 for my first 6 months liability only.. I paid $4,000 for my 944. A ticket would have put me off the road. I loved my car though. A texting 22 year old in Dad's big Tundra pick up failed to stop for a line of stopped traffic, I was at the back of that line. My car did not survive, but I did. |

I don't know when the dark side was repaired. Taurus and Windstar were awful in the late 90's to early 2000's, just like the Accord. |
Show her the pic of the Taurus wagon and report back. :D
I was excited to get a car, I'd be able to go places without taking up my parents time, head out to the Remote control track more often.

My memory is fuzzy, I think it was somewhere north of $1400 for my first 6 months liability only.. If we gave her the IS it would be $2200 additional. If we did something like a 2006 Maxima it would be about $1800. If she had her own policy it would be around $ 4500/year. I now have 4 cars fully insured in pay sub 200/ month, so its a pretty big shock to know I'd be paying double..maybe it's just me |
As I always say. A Corolla is a fantastic car. Especially as a first car.
I'm on to about my seventh, or maybe eight, one in a row. I'm never without a Corolla. |

I owned a 99 accord, pretty bulletproof up to 100k then major problems. When i was just starting to drive(legally) my family owned both a windstar and later a Taurus. Both awful cars. |
You know, when I was a kid we worked for our cars....paid for them outright....they were not 'given' by parents...that would have indicated a spoiled kid...
Today, not so much. |

You feel less bad when it's a beater. I have responsible girls as well but after the first year the car could have been in a Mad Max movie. Now its getting beat up on collage campus. If it was nice car it would bother me. |
