Very nice. Enjoy driving my stock 87/535i, but would like to have the extra HP that you have.

Great cars, Years ago I put on 733,000km on my mostly orig 84/533i, had to rebuild the cylinder head at 550,000km, still had original bottom end.

Btw, I'm going to take this car back to stock interior, so if anybody has a set of comfort seats and the late rear seats let me know. Any condition as long as they work, as I'll get them redone.

Money or trade for my heated Sheels and e24 rears.

Mind if I ask why? It looks really nice, and is a perfect fit for the period 1980s hot rod vibe of the car overall.

I have plenty of fast sporty cars. I want something that performs and has an exterior hotrod vibe, but cushy inside. I'm also dreaming of a houndstooth interior.

Super nice car...some guys have all the luck!

+1 On the wheels, they are growing on me too and give the car a little bit of a unique look.

80s Bimmers and Style 5s are like Lennon and McCartney; much better together than apart (but still ok on their own). Still a very nice score.

I'm curious, what did you use on the plastic grills?

Are you selling the Scheels?

908/930 04-11-2018 09:08 AM

You should be able to find seats quite easy, any 528e if you are looking for manual front seats will work, should be lots around, probably need the rear seat belts also, as the e24 is part of the seat assembly if my memory is correct. If you are after power front seats you need the console that has the seat switches also and would be optional on 528e but stock on 535i.

There is a good e28 site called mye28.com that you would be able to sell your existing seats quite easy, lots of info on there.

i admit..i cruised Craigslist hard last night.

all i found were auto tranny cars.

I found power fronts, and I have the console and wiring. Will buy the switches. I thought the rear seats differed from late to early?

All my current seats will be for sale, but will need to wait until all upholstery is done.

I just looked at the rear seat of my 87/535i, as far as I can remember it is the same as my old 84/533i, not positive if the 528e is the same. you can look at part numbers at bmwfans.info/parts-catalog/e28.

What makes you think the early ones were different?

quicksix 04-11-2018 12:02 PM

Haha, no worries.
It does look like a decent deal, the car has been listed before and didn't sell, don't know why.
These guys are local, have a good rep, if you get that far.

in that Sacramento craigslist car, I would wonder how they put in a new timing belt, 535 are chain drive. Or someone installed 535i badge on a 528e car.

Car looks nice though.

908/930 04-11-2018 01:30 PM

Single tailpipe, probably a 528e not a 535i.

It looks like the seat belt mount catches are different.

The seat belts and the upper half of the backseat changed in '85.

And they said timing belt changed. That is an M20 motor. The 3.5 M30 has a timing chain. Get a shot of the tach as a e motor redlines at about 4500 rpm.

quicksix 04-11-2018 03:46 PM

Just texted dude, real 535i, big book of maintenance records, no wrecks. He said the exhaust is "just
the one they put on"
Got some one looking at it tomorrow.

Thorough cleaning with degreaser. Two coats of flat primer and two coats of Rust-Oleum heat resistant semi-gloss. The seats will be for sale eventually after I get my interior sorted.
