Grease Guns
My $12.00 special, from 1999, finally bit the dust. I am looking for a better cartridge reload process...the old one sucked but I was used to it.
I am looking at: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01KZ5OY1U/ref=psdc_15707871_t2_B01COU3UJG And: https://www.amazon.com/DEWALT-DCGG570B-18V-Cordless-Grease/dp/B00IYB0OIA?SubscriptionId=AKIAILSHYYTFIVPWUY6Q&tag =duckduckgo-ffsb-20&linkCode=xm2&camp=2025&creative=165953&creative ASIN=B00IYB0OIA I go through a tube of grease a week in the summer and I have all the Dewalt support gear. I'm thinking manual but I am curious if anyone has an electric grease gun and their opinion. |
Thread disappoints. No spoon pics of said grease gun
|
That first one didn't get too many good reviews. I've never liked pistol grip guns anyway.
the electric one is interesting. Good thing it has a long hose, as it is bulky. How much grease pumping do you do? |
Every piece of heavy machinery I’ve encountered has a Lincoln grease gun in it. They make a battery one the guys in the service truck run with.
A crane eats up a tube every other day. Those Lincoln guns move some volume. |
We have a Lincoln at work that works great. We wore one out ( stripped the plastic gears inside) after many years and just replaced it with a new one. It gets quite a work out between the grader, backhoe, 2 loaders, and 2 trucks.

Paul. Buy a Lincoln. Some of them use these giant tubes.
|
I refill mine from a 5 gallon bucket with a puddy knife It takes about the same amount of time and its cleaner than wrestling with the tubes
|
Lincoln is a good name. I still use the Lincoln grease guns my dad used on our farm in the 1950s. There is one with a 6” solid pipe and one with a hose. I use them both. The solid one is good for a clogged zerk that you really need to lean on.
|
Funny. I was going to pipe up Lincoln. Late to the party. What's new.

One of my best friends is a cat skinner. He owns 2 Cat D6s and a John Deere 200CLC excavator. He has the dewalt and goes through probably more grease than anybody on this forum.
He has Lincoln backups. |
Cordless grease gun! ... Really?
I'd try to find a good old school second hand one before buying anything made in China. |
My dad has the ultimate grease gun. An air powered unit left over from my grandfather's Esso station, from the 50's. Stands about 3 feet tall, and is mounted on casters, and a long hose from the unit to the actual grease gun. Just hook up the compressor, put the gun on the fitting, and pull the trigger. It's a cool toy.

I had a change of heart and cancelled the Lincoln order and bought the DW, mostly based on logistics: I have a lot of 18v DW stuff.

I tend to use what I have until it breaks so the whole battery powered, LnL grease gun improvements have evaded me. Tubes load like they should, no miss grabs, just a freaking pleasure to use. Expensive, I know...but it should last until I sell the place. |
Looks awesome.
Ironic that that Lock N Lube connector comes on a gun that only requires one hand. The biggest problem I have with my old pump grease guns is when working with a recalcitrant zerk you need one hand to force the nozzle tight onto the zerk, one hand to hold the barrel of the gun, and one hand to pump it. One of those Locky things alone would make my life easier. |
I use an electric grease gun all the time to put grease in the generator bearings on those large wind turbines. They used to issue us the lincolns but they are no where near as nice in my opinion as the dewalts or milwaukees. I like the milwaukee a bit more but seeing as you have dewalt tools already, I believe you made the right choice.
