Wireless outdoor camera comparison

I did a search, but didn't find what I wanted...

What outdoor wireless cameras are you using around the house? I'm looking at 4 different brands and they have their pluses and minuses. Wired is not a choice.

What do you think are the best options to look for? Cloud storage...Micro SD card...DVR...rechargeable batteries/Li On batteries...Apps...phone/laptop viewing...2-Way Audio...minimum resolution...etc.?

I'll probably need 3 outdoor (I want to catch the person who lets their dog shat in our yard every day). Then I’ll add 2 indoor cams.

One concern I have is lag time to record and/or notify the owner. Some say the person/dog/event is gone by the time the system notifies you.

What are brands are you using and why? Thanks!

I prefer sd cards just for control. I'm sure cloud is great, but having a website down, or wifi down, or having to pay a monthly fee just makes sd cards easier for me.

2 way audio is on my cameras and has been completely worthless. Never used it or even had the chance to use it.

I just have some cheap IP cameras, but they are indoors/garage so not much help to you.

FWIW I have 3 trail cameras set up and they use SD cards.

I have had some thefts and decided to set something up and this approach seemed the easiest as a start.

So far so good......;)

I did the EZVIZ POE wired just because I don’t want a monthly fee; I really enjoy it. I have 5 cameras and get about 16-17 days of recording at 1080, and there’s a nice phone app.

Nothing great so far except squirrels and the mailman. One interesting video of a temporary ms gogar fooling around on my porch and neither ringing the doorbell or knocking. Good outcome IMO

So you have to retrieve the SD cards to view?

Baz, I've been thinking of getting a Moultrie Trace for around the house. What are your thoughts?

I have the Arlo system which I purchased from Costco. Great deal on the system and clear, sharp pics with sound.

I have the early Arlo system with three cameras. Would like to upgrade to Arlo Pro soon as they support local storage (inside the house).
Works perfectly!

I don't like the idea of having to change the camera batteries.

When you say "wireless" are you talking about network or power?

Hey Bill....not familiar with the "Trace" but seems like all these trail cameras work about the same way. One of mine has temperature readings which is nice in the winter months so I can monitor cold snaps. The trade off is cost vs convenience as it does take a little more effort to use an SD card vs. hard drive and changing out batteries periodically vs. corded systems. Otherwise I find these trail cameras to be very handy....easy to set up and easy to re-locate.

It does help if you use rechargeable batteries.

Vince gives the Arlo System a thumbs up.......

Both network and power.

I’ve never had cameras and didn’t think about it when I built it 2 years ago.

I was gonna suggest Moultrie Trail cams too...I set mine in 90 second video mode....great vdeo and audio too...mebbe the culprit will be praised by name ;).

I bought a top of the line one a few years back...for your needs, go dirt cheap imo.

Ring spot. Cam wireless with solar in the package if you have Wi-Fi, $100/year for subscription for unlimited Ring products, monitors and tells your phone, view image on phone.

I just bought a S3VC WiFi outdoor camera. Haven’t installed yet but initial testing looks good. This camera seems to sort of bridge the gap between all the different options. It requires wired power (which may be a deal breaker for you) but can use a 128gb micro sd card to record to or it can record to FTP, etc. The phone app also seems pretty user friendly and has the ability to connect to and control several cameras. You can setup a fence on the image for motion activated recording, it will continuously record to the address card and write over from the beginning when full, or you can set it to only record when motion activated or at certain intervals. You can also set it to notify you via app and also email with images during an alarm event. I bought a 30’ power extension to run power to my nearest outlet (they sell much longer ones). Hope this helps.
