Saab Through Barnfinds

I seem to recall someone looking for one of these a while back.

Where's Waldo?

Those are always around and available. They have never caught on and jumped up in price much. That one is very complete and has desirable parts, the problem is pan rust. They are fiberglass w metal pans/frames.

A guy here in town has about half a dozen of them in his yard. He is a 'car investor' and bought them up in the early 90's. They've sat around since then and he can't give them away. No one wants them.

Personally I like the look of em but I have yet to see one running and driving. All the ones I've seen for sale are parts cars. But it is tempting to get into something rare for a song...

The V-4 Saabs used a Ford Industrial engine...back in the day, engine parts were easily obtained. Very rugged powerplant, designed to power conveyor belts, etc. Couple of Saab guys used to autocross..the modded Sonnett was pretty quick as I recall.

The engine was from the Ford Taunus, and was also used in the Ford Corsair cars

Is anyone else trying to figure out a way to get to Maine and get this thing? I swear its a sickness. I told my teenage son this past weekend not to catch it.

My tire guy in Portland rallies the old teardrop Saabs. Don't recall the name of the car model. He has at least three of them. Probably a few more in parts as well. Not sure why he loves them but he surely does.

Next time you're in, say "nice ninety-sixes"...he'll probably smile...
