NASCAR for sale?

Just another family business run into the ground after a few generations and being sold off for whatever they can get for it. Happens everyday in America.

I wonder why the family is looking to get out. I thought Nascar was still selling to huge crowds.

It will be interesting to see what becomes of the sport. I was a fan for a number of years in the late 90's and early 2000's then stop watching around 2006. I watched a race over this past weekend just to see what is new... It appears they now have periods or sections to the race? It all seemed contrived... The announcers having to work to hard to make it interesting. I doubt I return as a fan.

Yup. Fan count, ad revenue, and TV ratings reflect this. I think F1 is in some ways on the same path. Make the cars all the same and strangle innovation with rules and this is what happens.

I watch most of the races, you can see the crowds are way down. I was at the summer Bristol race last year. I don't think they sold 75% of the seats. Years ago you couldn't get a ticket for that race.

Even if they'd made the right choices sports are still losing viewership to other forms of entertainment.

But they made some choices that really crossed the wires of their brand. Unfortuantely I doubt any potential new buyer will do better.

Their brand was largely based on outspoken freedom lovin' "Muricans", and once they started finin' and threatening suspendin' on drivers for their comments that was very much an end to an important aspect of why people payed attention.

NASCAR
"S" stands for "Stock car " !
Is there a lie in here somewhere?
"Stock cars" are not raced.
Perhaps early 80s was the last time?
Thank you, NASCAR for ruining a good thing!
Detroit used to be involved in producing a limited number of the cars for the race teams and fans that wanted to own and buy them.
Now, these cars are completely fabricated elsewhere.
Nothing to do with hometown America.
Fans are slow to learn, but they are slowly assimilating what they are seeing is not what they are getting.
Who cares about a bunch of rich kids acting like idiots and doing flips off roofs of make-believe Detroit iron?
The disconnect between the fans and the so-called "stock car" has become a great chasm.
Money- or lack of is always the answer.
No one cares about the mutt cars .

The August Bristol race was always a dream of mine, back when Earnhardt Sr,, Jarrett, the Labonte brothers, Gordon, and Stewart were bumping, and running. All of those guys are gone, along with some of the Southern attitude, now it is all about polished appearences, and speeches.

I think 20 years ago, NASCAR was a huge outlet for people searching for entertainment (before internet/netflix/interactive fantasy games), and could hold a crowd on a night race under the lights....not so much anymore.

they have restricted and regulated it so much its lost its fascination with what made it great and that is guys actually having to drive the cars and the races being won or lost ON THE TRACK.
now it comes down to who can they team up with at the end to get a push as far as actual racing goes. pit strategy has become a major part of wining now and that is not what the fans come to see.
they have tried changing the points system to keep it interesting. I don't mind the sprints during the race but I don't think they should have a restart after every one.
we did that when I race bicycles, they never grouped us back up. if someone got a lead because of it he could take advantage of his efforts.

if I watch one now its one of the short track races.
we went to Darlington about 2yrs ago and we want to go to Bristol. would love to see the night race.

I also think they the drivers get away with way too much intentional wrecking, which may be their way of trying to keep fans interested.
I saw tony stuart purposely wreck a guy on the back STRAIGHT. he later admitted doing it on purpose because the guy bumped him "twice".

Last couple of posts hit it on the head.......I'm not even a NASCAR fan, largely drag racing. But NHRA has managed to also run that into the ground, similar reasons, similar results.

It's taken a long long time for all of pro racing to get the the point it is now, and it all comes down to technology and money and how well the regulations were written to control all of the things that got out of hand.

Unfortunately, in every case it makes for a pretty bland show. F1, Indycar, Nascar.

MotoGP is still exciting, in spite of the technology, because rider skill is right there on display, and whoever has the biggest balls and makes the right tire choice on a given day will generally prevail.

NASCAR crowds are anemic just like Indy car or whatever it is called these days.

I think their die hard fans are still there but the fringe guy/gal has found other entertainment.

I never understood going round in very very tight circles. The "post season" also baffles me.
