DIY Tire Changing
With some DEs and club racing I am changing tires often.
Inevitably I end up with a half worn set and a race coming up, or I am burning good tires at a DE. So has anyone embarked on a home set-up for tire changing? What worked, what didn't etc....

I simply cannot even begin to imagine changing super stiff low profile race tires without at least a rim clamp machine .

I had a manual bead breaker and a pair of tire irons back in the day. It was a weekday routine to switch tires on rims. I was running a Crossle Formula Ford in those days so the tires were pretty small.

Many of the serious DIY guys have tire machines in their home shops. i know of no one who changes tires at home “by hand”
The machines can be purchased used for reasonable prices. I think it’s more an issue of shop space as opposed to cost in many cases. |

Unless you have a tire changer, its not close to being worth it.

^^ If I had the space I would seriously consider it. I hate taking my wheels in for new tires (I try to avoid bringing the car in - they always over tighten the crap out of the lug nuts) only to get the wheels back scratched.

I Started with a few tire irons and a bead breaker. Michelin makes some nice irons. I like the ~20” curved irons.
