Burpees?

i am going to try to do them EVERYDAY..maybe try to do 2 weeks.

they are completely unnatural for me. i feel awkward, and it seems like my form SUCKS!!

is 30 of them a day impossible? i need to do them SLLLOOOOW to focus on my form. really slow. i need to pause between moves. nothing is fluid at this point. i'm not even sure i am integrating a pushup yet.

anyone that has done them from a point in their life they were not in the best physical shape have any tips?

3 set of 10 with no time limit seems acceptable. what do you think?

i need to add something to my mtnbiking..seems like 15 mins when i wake up is a possibility. i can wear work gloves and use the concrete pad at the side of the house. solitude.

Thought you were talking about the seed catalog Vash...lol

They are the devil's work...they also do a good job of whipping your butt into shape.

3 sets of 10 seems doable, until it's gets easy, then up the numbers.

No help here, I thought you were talking about the effects of 2-3 good IPA's.

That sounds like one of those Crossfit type of exercises which I detest.

I have nothing constructive.

Carry on.

Sorry, best I could do on such short notice, lol.

I still hate my high school coach because of burpees.

edit:
Oh, so that's what you call those.
I did a go-zillion of em when I played football for 10 years but never heard them called that, haven't even considered doing one since.

I remember an interminable road trip through ne Oregon in early spring, the 5 and 7 yea olds in the back started using potty talk. Pulled over and made them bust out 100 EACH, didn't count if feet stayed on the ground or hands were below head.

I was shocked they both did them all consecutively with no resting, snow swirling around them.

Is a matter of not knowing what's possible.

Wondering, if goal is fitness.... Why not make them push up burpies?

baby steps.

plus my shoulder is a tiny bit sore.

Burpees are for people who hate form, hate supporting their body the whole time, and hate puppies.

If you are the type of person who loves form, body support AND puppies, then you should do things that don't involve some sort of rushed, fish flopping around in the ground move. I mean, really, you end up laying on the ground for a second? And that is "work'?

We do these (because my group is instructed by a former SEAL):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TxQT-wZdP28

You can search for "8 count bodybuilders" for a few variations, but they're all the same series of moves.
Variations are remove the sideways kicks, and/or remove the pushup (so clean, systematic squat thrusts). Weight is always on the arms, motion is systematic and rhythmic, controlled. They take much longer than burpees but that's because you're not trying to break something.

3x10 Bodybuilders will kick your ass. When it's someone birthday, we toss in that many 8-counts in addition to the normal workout. I had to lead us through 45 of them last week :(

wildthing 05-16-2018 04:18 PM

Do it!

I usually do it as my last set once a week, three sets of 10 (more like 2 and a half for me) before cool down.

asphaltgambler 05-16-2018 04:30 PM

I was on the same seed catalog train....my Dad got them in the mail 1st week of Jan - so if that's what I thought you were talking about you're either way late / way early for planting season....

Is burpee a seed?

And wow; those things are unpleasant. Gross.

I placed a small order with Burpees this year. They sell my favorite variety of serrano pepper seeds.

I remember 4-count burpees from high school gym class. I never had to do them during football or basketball seasons because varsity athletes were exempt from phys ed class. I hated to see spring come and almost went out for baseball to avoid the BS they had us do in phys ed - including burpees. I guess I hated baseball more than I hated burpees.

I. Cannot. Stop. Watching. Help.

Porsche-O-Phile 05-17-2018 03:49 AM

It’s better with the volume muted and in ½ speed.

ckelly78z 05-17-2018 03:50 AM

I do the Burpees every time I drink beer...no real concern about form, or length of time.

mreid 05-17-2018 04:42 AM

My wife prefers burpees to tootees. You know, better North than south.

Frankly, burpees are for people who lack exercise discipline, but they’re better than nothing. You are much better off doing a series of different exercises that work each muscle group and then allow that group to rest while you work another group. Try a series of push up, lunge, crunch, plank. Ten each in succession, then rest for one minute and repeat two more times. Over time up both the number of reps and the number of series. Don’t be surprised if you are very sore for the first couple of days after the first day.

Good video, goes over problem I had with them, shoulder stress (rotor cuff).

I thought I was dropping too hard and quickly, looks like I had my arms too wide for the push-up.

I stopped doing these in the fall when I moved indoors, just didn't have the room in the basement gym. Now that I'm working out outside again I'll give them another try.

That 8 count bodybuilder is one form of the Burpee they were having us do at the workout place I tried for a while.

I can see he had his arms as wide as I had, perhaps his elbows were tucked in like the first video posted.

I looked at the video with woman posted in this thread as well.

I still see a great deal of weight being shifted and supported by the shoulders, an irritant for me.

I'm going to focus more on dips for now because I found a pair of pipe stands that allow me to dip with knees bent, forward body angle and really hit my chest in lieu of the back of my arms.

Burpee's are just too free form for me at this point, too easy to do in poor form.

I'm tending to agree with a few others, this combination exercise may lead to injury, even the experts doing them in the videos warn so.

Why combine squat thrusts and push-ups?

The only reason to do this is it compresses time and get your heart to race quickly.

This is only an advantage to the workout gyms with 1/2 hour classes.

It's like fast food places playing rock & roll to move bodies in and out of there by getting you to eat faster.

Faster is not better in this case, safer is better. Safer to do one thing at a time.

cmccuist 05-17-2018 05:56 AM

The world record is 1,490 in an hour. So that's something to shoot for.

Of course, all the Cross fit freaks went berserk and said she didn't do them correctly. Still, that's a lot of burpees!

Burpees!

Honestly a truer statement has never been uttered "Youth is wasted on the young".

Young people seem to have all the energy in the world, but tend to waste it on gaming, or slacking.
