The entire drive is unofficial, but Friday will be even more unofficial. Many of us will be driving a spirited drive to Hood River, leaving the greater Seattle area Friday morning. The Canadian contingent will be joining us and all others are welcome. Others can just meet up with us at the hotel (to be announced soon) later that evening. The idea is to have everyone in one location Saturday morning for the start of the drive.

Maps will be distributed Saturday morning for the drive that day. We want to get an early start and be back at the same hotel early evening for a nice dinner and adult beverages afterward.

Maps will be distributed Sunday morning for a more leisurely drive back up North. Meeting for breakfast, then driving up some backroads into Yakima Valley for a few stops at some wineries.

*I will revise this first post with more details at a later date.

Scooter, perfect!!

I am part of the crazy Canucks wanting to join the group this year. From what people have been telling me, this is an event not be missed.

It looks like I will be adjusting the Canada West Region tour plans to fit this one in. As an FYI, I'm the CWR tour guy. We have some exciting tours in the detailed planning stage. But, that is another thread.

Look forward to meeting you folks. http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/...s/beerchug.gif

Some of you joined us for the R Gruppe Pac West chapter tour last year and made it as far as Hood River. The best part of the weekend, the very best roads we found, were after most of you left. Three of us continued on, southeast of Hood River. The roads are absolutely fantastic through that area. Starting from a hotel in the area, bright and early Saturday morning, will give everyone more than enough time to enjoy them and return to the hotel for dinner. We got a later start, and kind of had to rush through it and even then drove well into the night to get back. All three of us resolved to get down there and do it properly, with more time. It sounds like that might be what Scooter has in mind.

I'll be there.

I now have a finish date for the suspension and brake project. ;)

Jeff, that is precisely the area I've been wanting to drive - SE of Hood River, and is what we have unofficially planned. ;) Let's talk offline so I can get an idea what roads you did last year so we can mix those in and do some additional exploring. I plan to do a scouting trip once the weather improves to nail down the specific route.

It's going to be great drive.

I'm in... and, as per the phone calls with Scooter, I'll work on arranging a group convoy down from "up here".

We're maybe looking at stopping in at the Grand Prix Espresso place for some caffeine and some nibblies.

Looking forward to it... sounds like it'll be a LOT of fun!

Anyone working on group rates at a hotel/motel?

I'm on it.

You da man.

June 1, 2, 3 is good and the plan is even better. :D
I take it that:"SE of Hood River" is the area in front of Mt. Hood?
Meaning the farm roads, not the major tourist roads: Too many Police!

Another blast is to go East on #14 to Roosevelt, then WOT North up to Bikleton and East to Goldendale. :)

I've noticed in the past that some R-gruppe cars had a lot of smoking engines.
Is that characteristic of the breed or just bad rings? :D

nize 03-06-2007 12:19 PM

bob, let me know if you'd like company when going on the scouting expedition. i'm interested in tagging along and mapping roads.

Scooter 03-06-2007 12:30 PM

It is only natural to speculate and inquire about where we are driving, but we really don't want to publish the drive until the day of. Trust us, it will be a great drive. :D

BobD993 03-06-2007 12:36 PM

Peter - Yes, of course, I want company. I'll post it when I plan to go.

Gunter - Major tourist roads will be avoided. Must have faith.
:D

Maybe it's just me but I find the "front of Mt Hood" really depends on perspective. ;)

I think that the guys are planning to head out to some of the same roads that we did on day two of Round-Up II, but further into N. Central Eastern Oregon (is that confusing enough Gunter?). Randy Wells planned that route. You guys may want to give him a call to compare notes. Of course Jeff's been on them too.

well since we will be starting the official drive part down in oregun, i might just try to make the whole weekend this time.:)

I find my favourite perspective is lookup up, with a few piercings along the way.

But I digress.

I have absolutely NO idea where those roads are. We tried looking for them on a wine tour we did down in that area, and had no luck.

For the most part, I was just trying to keep up and follow the guy in front of me... no GPS, no nothing to help figure out where we were.

There is no "official" drive. You should know better. ;)

Inibriation tends to confuse orientation. :p
Wine tour? In the SE of Mt. Hood area?
I think the only wine there would be in the stores. :D :D

Here is a perfect day in the area:
