In Search of a Traffic Lawyer in The Dalles, OR Area
Yup... got a ticket this weekend in Oregon. Anyone know of a traffic lawyer that takes cases in The Dalles?
Thanks,

If it was the OSP they have a bad reputation there. I heard they ticket over 72, which is complete BS. Good luck!

We had a great drive down from Cathcart, and a great drive after breakfast. We were, of course, safe, responsible, and couteous on both.

Ahhh.... let me guess... you must be the off-duty officer driving around with a laser gun in your personal vehicle, who clocked the whole group doing 100+ mph. So the cops weren't lying after all.

The fact is that our lawmakers have have so severely dumbed down their need to prove any of their accusations that most of us have pretty well had enough. All an officer has to do is cite, to accuse, and we are assumed guilty. There is no longer any need whatsoever for the officer to prove a god damn thing. None. The standard of evidence has been reduced to "preponderance", which has a very precise legal meaning - 51% of the available evidence is all it takes for a decision. In Washington and Oregon, that 51% is no more than the officer's word. In addition, we have no right to be tried in front of a jury of our peers. The officer need only "prove" his case to another government employee, the judge, who is also keen to collect revenue. On top of that, we have no right to representation. In other words, out most fundemental right as an American citizen, when accused by authorities of wrongdoing - the right to due process - is denied us in traffic court. Most of us very strongly resent that. Most cops take full advantage of that, either under departmental edict or to stoke their own egos, or both. They are writing tickets at an uprecedented rate as a result. This comes at a time when more and more departments are announcing an inability to investigate certain crimes, due to budget and manpower constraints. Typically property crime below some arbitrary value, like $10,000 or something. Those announcements get a little hard to swallow when we see speed traps with multiple officers sitting on their dead asses, clearly just collecting revenue. And, finally, do these guys ticket one another? Most speed off duty just like the rest of us. A little blue, green, or yellow bear in the lower left corner of the back window says "I'm a cop" or "I'm related to a cop", and all they get is a verbal warning. They are the worst kind of hypocrites, claiming it's all about "public safety" when they cite us, but giving each other - and each others' wives and children - a free pass. They know better concerning this "public safety" ruse, and they know that we know better as well. I don't think anything else has done as much to erode the public's trust in, and respect for, law enforcement officers. They need to realize this. Actually, I think most do. They just don't care - they don't have to. It's just far too easy to go along and keep writing as many tickets as possible; it earns them props in their departments, and satisfies their need to demonstrate their authority. I guess it's easier (and much safer) than going after real criminals. More profitable, too.

They are so corrupt here in Snohomish county, that even when you show that the officer didn't get the correct details written down on the ticket, they won't dismiss it. So how could the officer be competent enough to judge speed/operate a radar gun? Instead they change it to a exspired tabs so they can still get their money and you don't get a moving violation on your insurance. And no I didn't have exspired tabs.
Hence why should we have any respect, who is the real criminals? Last edited by RSlater; 10-15-2009 at 10:53 AM.. |

I think i have found a firm that handles traffic offenses, but I will certainly run them by Jeannie first. I have been using her for a few years now with excellent results. Maybe I can get my speeding ticket reduced to a "no helmet" ticket.

Personally, I find most cops, Unless they are in their mid twenties to be complete asses. I was doing 62 on Redmond/Fall City road, the speed limit is 55.. I got stopped and the cop said I was traveling at an erratic rate of speed, and told me I was going 72. I have proof tho, that I was INFACT going 62, I passed one of the automated speed signs.
The cop pulled me out of the car, searched me/my car/ the hatch for anything he could try and find. He found a bag of chewing tabacco from the previous owner. He tried to tell me that it was weed. I was pissed, it took him an hour and twenty minutes to get the stuff tested, and release me, and be a total dick to me even after I did nothing wrong. But apparently because an 18 year old male is driving a Porsche that it means its daddies car and, that AUTOMATICALLY means I do way more than the legal speed limit, I LOVE stereotypical cops, Yet I am going to be going to the Police Academy to become a cop... GO FIGURE.. I guess that is just me rambling. I have a lot to speak of about cops, and am VERY opinionated. If you EVER want to just chat about cops or anything, my grandfather was an undercover, so I got the 411, Hit me up

revenue
the vast majority of the money collected from fines does not find it's way into the coffers of the city or county where i live. i am a little put off with your name calling but then you have never had to deal with the ***** that the guys here put up with on a regular basis from the drivers of this state.
