Going to paint tomorrow

It's finally going to the paint shop tomorrow. I asked if he can spray Glasurit he said yes. I didn't specify the type. it's guards red clear coat. it will be stripped to bare metal then re sprayed which type is the best, I want this to be the lifetime warranty paint not something that will fail 5 years from now.

there is no such thing as a life time warranty on any paints!

OK well thanks, and thanks for the quick answer in my pm. I really appreciate it.

Hi Ken, I am sure you already know this but the quality comes from the products one uses when preparing the car for paint. Prepare the car correctly, use top-quality products and when it is time for the color, it will lay down nice.

My 914-6 was sprayed in Glasurit (single-stage) Irish Green about 2 years ago and it looks better than new after 5K miles. I did not spray it- my painting days are behind me, but the painter did all the prep and the car looks perfect.

Ken, how did the paint come out for you at this shop?

kris8speed 04-11-2022 02:20 AM

amazing job done

Ken, you’re doing the right thing going with a 2stage clear coat over guards red. Colors like red and brown have tendency to oxidize a little faster that other colors. The clear coat will prevent this.

Still there, he ended up stripping most of the car to bare metal due to the previous crappy paint job. He's taking time to get all the fender edges correct and the gaps correct everywhere. They were off pretty bad on the rear deck lid.
