Question are 965 bumpers a direct bolt on for a 930 slantnose?

ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.I WANT TO INSTALL 965 BUMPERS ON A 930 SLANTNOSE CONVERSION I AM DOING.IS IT A DIRECT BOLT ON FOR THE ORIGINAL BUMPERS TO THE CAR.IT'S A 78 SC.WILL THEY LINE UP WITHOUT A PROBLEM?.OR SHOULD I GO WITH FIBERGLASS IF THE REINFORCEMENTS DONT FIT.?I WOULD RATHER GO WITH ORIGINAL AS I HAVE METAL FRONT AND REAR FENDERS.THIS IS THE LOOK I AM AFTER BUT MINES IS TARGA AND I WANT TO LEAVE IT THAT WAY.

Are you planning to use the 965 bumper reinforcement pieces or just mount the cover? It makes a huge difference. The cover mounts easily, the factory 965 reinforcement bar takes a bit of fabrication.

Regardless of what they tell you, none of the current fiberglass 965 front bumper covers will allow for the reinforcement piece as the molds were not pulled from a real 965 bumper and are a "representation". Also, the molds have a twist in them on the left side. I tried two bumpers from supposedly two different companies that both had the same problems and confirmed with another that his was "original". The slope of the bumper cover is different. They also told me theirs were originals. The cost of cutting and refitting the fiberglass exceed the cost of a factory bumper cover.

As for the factory bumper cover, it will line up with the chassis and if my recall is correct, the screw holes line up also. I was able to find a new factory cover at a good price and remember it is poly which will take a bump or twist as compared to the fiberglass.

When I did my car, Racer's Group sold a front and rear fiberglass cover that had been pulled from a real 965 part and fit perfectly. They no longer offer that part and as I said the current front covers apparently come from the same mold which is not correct. You can't see the difference until you do a side to side comparison with a factory cover.

I don't know about the rear fiberglass cover as to fit and originality.

Hope this helps

Jim
