Cleanup after Media Blasting
My 914 is coming back from the media blasters in a coujple of days. Glass and Soda. Excellent work with no warping. Now. What's the best way to clean up the body before applying undercoat? Soap and Water and an Air Hose? What works good and are there special solvents/cleaners that I need to get? Thanks Bill

Wouldn't water start the rusting process? I would guess air, vacuuming then mineral spirits. I am anxious to see what the others answer because I need to prep my metal too. Good luck!

I would just blow it out with a real good leaf blower then wipe it down with some solvent.

go read the sticky at the top of this forum. Freddie gives you a good explanation of how to prep a bare metal panel. He uses PPG products.

Freddy's work
I read Freddie's techniques, but they're geared to a hood on saw horses. What about the dust and crud down inside the engine compartment and in the tunnel? Actually, a leaf blower doesn't sound like such a bad idea>) for the dust.
I'm thinking about using something like Eastwood Prep in a garden sprayer, the leaf blower, more Prep spray and a final blow out for those parts...and a normal wipedown cleanup for the flat surfaces. Any other thoughts out there? |
