body measurements
Good Day to all!
After several years of delay, procrastination, and worry, I am finally going to start on repairing holes in the body of my 1970 911E. It is up on stands with the engine out, and all the removeable stuff removed. Most of the holes are less than six inches across and the tub appears to be strong. However, many on this site have recommended bracing the tub prior to cutting and welding. This sounds like a good idea, so I will. However, I have also noticed posts with a picture of the bottom of a 911 with all the triangular measurements to take to insure that the body is in spec. I would like to do this first, but I do not have the picture and measurements in the books / manuals that I have here. Can someone post / forward to me the right picture and measurement chart for a 1970 911E, Germany delivered / European spec tub? Thanks in advance! I really want to brace the tub right to begin with rather than to have to push and pull later after all the holes are filled. Thanks. Rick

Rick, assuming you car is nice and straight to start with, couldn't you just take a set of measurements of your own? Choose some fixed, symmetrical points and record the existing distances laterally, longitudinally and diagonally. The key is supporting the body in such a way that it won't flex in the first place once you start cutting away structural metal. There are good examples here, like Fishcop's octagonal creation, and over on sites like DDK. Ideally, we'd all have access to a Celette bench, but that is not usually the case. Best of luck, John

Rick,
This might help, however, it is from 1972 to 83. Maybe someone can chime in on the difference to the 1970 or has a similar chart. ![]()
