whale tail re-painting
My whale tail had been repainted by the PO. The black grill area borders were in the wrong location and the border lines were ragged. So I decided repaint. I was impressed by how many fasteners hold this thing together. I used Diamont grand prix white for most of the tail, matte black for the grill areas, and 3m fineline tape to mask.
Here's a before pic. Notice the borders of the black are wrong and the paint had yellowed, especially when viewed against the rest of the car. ![]() I finally figured out where the small flecks of paint were coming from after a long drive. The back of the tail had not been prepped correctly, so the paint just flaked off. ![]() I created a template of where I thought the black grill area should be. ![]() Sealed. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Done

Tail repaint
Hello, what colour did you do the inside surfaces of the tail, body colour or matt black?
Just doing this myself and wondering what is correct? Alec |

My car is an '88 Carrera, so the satin/matte black was correct for the grill area. Some later years and I think the RS America painted the center area body color. |
